The 2018 Ford Explorer oil type and capacity iS5w-30 and 5.7 quarts for the 2.3 L 4Cylinder engine. Your oil needs to be replaced eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine. Having high quality oil is key for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into problems with the oil at some point. Bad oil can cause the engine to fail. A normal problem is a nasty burning smell. This needs to be looked into as soon as possible or the car might explode. You could experience terrible gas mileage. Knocking noise may come about from the engine.
This is concerning to me. Owner's Manual calls for a premium synthetic blend. Recommended motor oil (U.S.): WSS-M2C946-A Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Premium Synthetic Blend Motor Oil -- Specification: XO-5W30-QSP (for 2.3l and 3.5l Ecoboost) ***Optional motor oil (U.S.): WSS-M2C946-A Motorcraft® SAE 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil -- Specification: XO-5W30-QFS*** Pages 342, 342, and 352 Owner's Manual. I'm not an expert, but I'm wondering why if Full Synthetic is Optional, why does Ford recommend a Premium Synthetic Blend (that has mineral oil)? How can you switch to a full synthetic that does NOT have mineral oil? Also, if it doesn't matter, then why don't they come stock with the better type of synthetic; Full Synthetic? Since it was new, I've had my 2018 ford Explorer 2.3l Ecoboost serviced at a Ford dealership and they put 5W30 Synthetic Blend.

The oil type for the 2018 Ford Explorer is a full synthetic oil. The 2.3L 4 -cylinder uses SAE 5W-30and can hold up to 5.7 quarts. The 3.5L V6 runs on SAE 5W-20 with an oil capacity of 6 quarts.

I asked for synthetic blend 5 W 30 and the dealership put in 5 W 20.
