The 2003 Ford F-150's MAP or "manifold absolute pressure" sensor is actually referred to as a MAF or "mass air flow" sensor and it is located on the intake tube, between the throttle body and the air filter housing. Later models of the F-150, equipped with an Ecoboost engine feature 2 MAP sensors found on top of the intake manifold under the engine cover, and near the throttle body. The MAF sensor is responsible for monitoring the amount of air in the engine to ensure appropriate timing and spark. If the MAF fails in the F-150 You will notice difficulty starting or turning over; frequent stalling; hesitation and/or jerking motions while accelerating and lean or rich idling. Cost to replace averages $250-$400 in parts and labor.
