Dependable, easy to operate compact, but roomy, has everything convenient for the driver as far as controls of heat air lights, radio, etc. Replacement parts are easy to find and install durability is a plus.
Seat is comfortable. Low gas usage. Brand lasts a long time. Reliable. Good pick-up. Good visibility. Heated back window. Manual door locks. Easy maintenance. Low-cost repairs comparatively. Good air conditioning.
It is small size makes it easy to handle and to park. It is a reliable basic car for city driving. It has some features to make it safe and good to drive but not to many to make it complicated. It was also an affordable option.
This vehicle is extremely reliable and gets really good gas mileage. I have never had a major mechanical issue with this car and drive it about 90 miles everyday to and from work. The car is not real quiet when you take it on the highway.
Very good on gas, and low maintenance. Has been a very reliable vehicle for me. Everything that it needs as far as maintenance is fairly simple such as brake changes, and oil changes. Plenty of trunk room.
The pros of this car are that it is very reliable, comfortable to drive and also has a lot of space for being a small car. The car drives great in the summer and winter. Trunk is big enough for suitcases and groceries.
I like the fact it gets between 28 and 33 miles to the gallon. The car is exceptionally was on tires. My front ones lasted almost 4 years. The back ones are still on it. The car rides and drives well. I use the car to drive back and forth to work.,
The 2005 Chevy Cavalier gets very good gas mileage and it does not cost a lot to fill it up. The seating is comfortable in both front and back seats. Tires for this model are also inexpensive. This model also has a anti-theft device plug under the drivers side dash. When removed the car cannot be started or hot wired. Many miles can be put on this car before you have to start replacing parts. I have put over 160,000 miles and the vehicle is just now needing replacement parts. It has been a very dependable vehicle. It has auto windows and door locks and rear windows and doors can be blocked from using by passengers in the back seat.
Nothing really seems even after 18 years, it is still going strong with just wear and tear which is expected after this length of time could have made the car more cosmically sound then it is. More durability in the body work would be an improvement.
High mileage. Bad secondary market paint job. Other drivers do not respect (due to age) it. Will die soon. Back window heater not operating on the bottom half. Seat belt sneaks tighter as you drive. Front floor mat slides too much.
Seems to use a lot of gas in city driving but slightly better on the highway. This car is probably not good for long distance trips as it may not be comfortable for everyone. Also does not have a lot of extras like GPS. Chevy no longer makes this model in the US.
The paint on this car has not held up over the years. While there is no rust on this car, the clear coat has all peeled off and has allowed the paint to fade. The transmission is going out but the car has 175,000 miles on it and has been extremely reliable.
If you want to change the radio out to aftermarket you will need a couple of adapters to keep your chimes, and for the antenna. You will also have to take most of the dash apart. If you have to change out your battery you might have to remove an air filter hose in order to reach the necessary bolts holding it in. The dash in these cars are prone to cracking.
The cons of my vehicle are that it is older so some work is required to keep it in good condition. The radio is old so it cannot connect to a newer smartphone. The gear shift has trouble sometimes and breaks occasionally.
I had to replace all the window motors on the electric windows. Clear is coming off. I had to replace fuel pump which is in the tank. The air conditioner compressor quit working and had to be replaced.
One of the cons for this vehicle is that there is no way to check the transmission fluid from under the hood. It has to be checked from underneath which is very inconvenient. My particular vehicle has had the transmission replaced because previous owner never had the fluid levels checked and the transmission burned up. Another con is that the suspension, front end, shocks and struts do not hold up well to rough streets. Another con is that some parts cannot be obtained except through car dealership. And the worst con is that the whole front end of car has to be removed to access the air conditioning\pulley assembly to be replaced and oil filter is hard to reach.
The 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier has an average owner rating of 3.92 out of 5 which ranks it #14 of 22 other Small Cars.
