Scion xb what's not to love.

Great vehicle for wheelchairs, walkers and hauling pygmy goats.
We bought the car used and have had no problems with it since purchase. We have taken several long road trips and it gets great gas mileage. I love the fact that the seats fold down for more storage space. We can easily fit 2 pygmy goats in there! My wheelchair fits comfortably behind the front seat and is easy for my husband to put in and take out of the car.

My Toyota Scion is extremely dependable and I love it
My Toyota Scion is very reliable. I've never had any problems with it. It's good on gas mileage, I commute tell her 5 days a week 25 miles to and front, and an awake I only have to put probably $40 in it. That's actually pretty amazing as far as gas mileage goes. It's extremely dependable. A make sure I keep my oil changed so that my car runs good. It's a cute but even for a spacious inside it's a hatchback.

2006 scion xb perfect, the perfect car for a teenager.
Back end bumper falls off very easily. The car is great on gas and very spacious inside. I never have any serious problems with car and I only change the oil, batteries, and brakes. I love the sound system I am the car and even how it sounds when I drive faster.

Best car I have ever owned, hands down!
I have never had any major problems from this vehicle, ever. I have done normal maintenance, oil changes, tires, spark plugs etc. I live in Ohio, so I have had to patch the muffler. This has been the best car I have owned ever, hands down. Great gas mileage, plenty of room and good looking car as well!

Perhaps the best and most versatile city car ever marketed
I have a 2006 with only 20,000 . Although I have seven automobiles, the XB arguably the best all around. It is as reliable as a sunrise, fun to drive, has a enormous storage capacity and requires almost nothing other than routine maintenance. I have had no issues mechanically or cosmetically with the automobile, and I drive it extremely hard smiling the whole time. As a former Ferrari/Alfa technician, I find it’s simplicity and ease of repair to be unbelievably good.

The amount of space you have in the little vehicle.
I like the spacious feel of my vehicle. The XB has room for tall people with long legs. My vehicle gets great gas mileage. I like to shape and look of my XB.

Best thing to come from Toyota!
The scion xb first gen is the most amazing vehicle. I am the original owner and have 276000 miles on this car. Only had to do regular maintenance on the car other than having to replace a motor mount recently, a $60 part lol. I think it is the most roomy vehicle until you step into the huge SUV line. All around a great buy. Cost was low, mileage is great, roomy and very durable.

Its small and is easy to maneuver. It can go quite fast
No cruise control, power in windows and locks go out. Pieces fall off easily. I don't recommend this vehicle. It's super comfortable. Seats don't lay down, but the space for the trunk is adequate. No heated or cool seats. Radio is basic and has no aux or Bluetooth. Windows are really big.
accountCircle Crista E
It's an okay car, but don't expect it to be amazing
Gaining speed is hard, it is however pretty reliable. But replacing parts can be difficult since most places don't carry them. Clearance is pretty low, which makes hydroplaning very easy. It is roomy, but the dashboard has such a weird set up compared to most vehicles.
accountCircle Karen B
Great to park. Fits into small spaces. Very good in NYC.
Nice ride, large enough for a family of 4. Could have more trunk space. Wheels are small so it's not great in the snow or rain.
accountCircle Matthew W
Lots of head room which enables people who are on the tall side to get in and out rather easily.
I like the room that the car has in the inside, especially the backseat area. However, I don't like that the car looks like a box. I prefer something a little more sporty looking.
accountCircle Jenna M
Good car and I like the style of it. A little older and expensive to maintain.
It is very reliable and takes me where I need to go.
accountCircle James B
It gets great gas mileage.
I like my car because it was very affordable and a very good first car. What I dislike about it is it is lack of power and cheap interior. Overall the car has lasted me 10+ years and for that I am happy.
accountCircle Nancy B
It has a slow pick up and is annoying.
I like it is good on gas, the AC works well and tires are inexpensive.... I do not like it is slow pick up and lack of horsepower.
accountCircle Mike B
YOU CAN'T BACKUP OVER A SPEEDBUMP.
It's comfortable, gets great mpg (38) in town. Nobody in Tucson can stop the fan belt from screaming. I've tried. The tailgate no longer opens because the handle pulled off and the repair bill is $600. The stereo ate a CD 5 years ago. The radio has a park-and-tune radio (display not readable while car is moving). Can't put into 'park' if using cupholder. Rear seat doesn't fold flat.

Why did you stop with the first generation design?
The Scion xB never caught my eye in the beginning. It was not that I saw the car and hated it or loved it. Like a young love head over heels in love with someone who doesn’t even know they exists, that’s the way it was with me. I had inherited my mother’s 1994 Toyota Corolla which was at that time 10-12 years old. I can’t remember what drew me to the xB but I began researching. I heard a lot of interesting things about the car that had sparked my curiosity. The boxy nature gave the occupants more room from head to toe especially in the rear seats as well as cargo space. The fuel consumption was pretty good. The “all glass surrounds” gave an unimpeded view and I went to the dealers and had picked up 2006 brochures. I really liked the xB: Unpretentious, useful, efficient and fun to drive. Some said unattractive, I thought differently. I always thought it looked like the car was smiling. It has personality, character, charm. Then I read an article that it was being redesigned. Hmmm, redesigned? My curiosity was peaked once more. I was curious to see what they would do with the very unusual, spunky box, but when it was revealed, I did not like it. The personality and character was gone. The smile had been turned into a scowl. The cockpit was dark due to the eliminations of the rear side windows and the lower “slammed “roof line. The “slammed” look never appealed to me. It looked like bat mobile animated series. Heavier with a boost in engine power, the fuel consumption went down; it was wider and longer with more trunk/cargo space. It had extra safety features that the first generation lacks. I hung on to the Corolla for another 11 years. The 24 year old Corolla still drove pretty well. The odometer had flipped back to 000,000 but was having a lot of issues (mainly electrical) and maintenance costs were increasing with each oil change. Not wanting a car payment, I started searching for the last production year of the 1st gens. In 2017, I purchased a 5 speed manual 2006 xB. I’ve had it for over 2 years and love it. It has been very useful in so many ways. With the passing of my in-laws, hauling their belongings to Goodwill and other establishments has been so easy. The wide hatch opening made loading large furniture pieces easy. A prime example, my brother in law wanted his parent’s wingback chairs and could not fit one in his partners Prius. With the rear seats down, I fit both (in a 69 position) in the cavernous back and was able to close the hatch completely. At times I have lower back issues which made getting in and out of the Corolla was a challenge gingerly balancing maneuverable ability and pain. I’m not tall but have misjudged getting in the Corolla and have hit the right side of my head a few times. The xB’s high roof line, lower chassis and wide doors (even the back doors) makes getting in and out not a problem and I have yet to bang my head. The xB is pretty good on the highway but at high speeds, the rpm’s are over 3000 and the engine sounds hi revved. If it had a 6th speed, it would take the rpm’s to a comfortable highway cruising speed/sound. If I could give Toyota some advice, re-issue a new model of the 1st gen xB and like the Mini Cooper and the VW Beetle, update the interior, update the body design with bold trim, side impact air curtains, hybrid/battery/electric/gas, 6th speed manual for high cruising speed, a little larger trunk/cargo space, sun/moon /panoramic roof, self-braking/lane drifting sensors, rear view back up camera. I would definitely purchase a modernized xB.

Pros from Owners

likeFilled Maryjane M.

Very roomy, good gas mileage, like it is looks, fun to drive. It has plenty of room for my dogs and is also easy to get in and out of. Really like this car, esp. For the price. Also, the buying experience was the best because there was no haggling.

likeFilled Emily K.

The visibility is excellent. The car has great gas mileage, and a fun style. The interior is roomy. The car is fun to drive. You will not find many cars on the road like it. The Scion seems to hold its cost value in the Kelley Blue Book.

likeFilled Ryan B.

Great gas mileage and super reliable. Other than basic preventative maintenance, I have had to do almost nothing to the vehicle and I am approaching the 200 mile mark. It is also more spacious than it appears and is great for moving.

likeFilled Nick K.

There are very large windows that allow for great front, side and rear visibility. There is also ample room in the front for seating, I including leg room and hip room. There is more room in the rear seats for your legs than your hips. The seats are fairly comfortable as well.

likeFilled Isis A.

Pros- good for small family, good on gas has some room for a small car, easy to clean. Cons- not good for a family of 4+, the car is basically square so you have to be careful turning with high winds, its is a small car so no more than 2 car seats fit.

likeFilled Candace H.

It has great gas mileage, it has plenty of leg room & folding seats for plenty of storage space. It is low enough to the ground to make it easy to get into, but not too low. It is a durable vehicle that can runs pretty well.

Cons from Owners

dislikeFilled Maryjane M.

Paint job is not the best and the windows tend to crack very easily. Also most modern cars, even expensive ones, are plastic and dent and break very easily. Also, they do not make this model any longer which is sad.

dislikeFilled Emily K.

When driving on the highway, the Scion takes a longer time to get up to speed. Once you hit around 35 miles an hour, the car will buck slightly before accelerating to a higher speed. The lack of side airbags is concerning, especially when thinking about the design of the car.

dislikeFilled Ryan B.

The car has poor acceleration, making it difficult to merge with freeway traffic sometimes. I have also run into some trouble replacing rear lights. While not really a con, one tricky note about the vehicle is the placement of the Jack, which is located under the driver's seat.

dislikeFilled Nick K.

The car is very slow. You must give it a lot of gas to keep up with traffic. The car struggles going up inclines. The ride is not very compliant to road conditions. It's a fairly bumpy ride. There is no center armrest which is terrible. The trunk is very small. You can fit a row of 4 grocery bags across and that's it.

dislikeFilled Isis A.

Cons- small, square, and compact, the dashboard is a bit weird with the location of the speedometer, gas, and miles indicator in the middle of the dashboard. It feels like your taking your eyes off the road.

dislikeFilled Candace H.

We bought our vehicle used & the or conditioner has not work in a few years. We had to put in a new alternator aa couple of years ago. The cons about our scion are mostly age related & the fact that we bought it used, not necessarily to do with the vehicle itself.

Is The 2006 Scion xB A Good Car?

Yes, I have been very happy with this vehicle and it has met or exceeded my expectations. It gets good gas mileage and is very roomy for it is size and holds my dog crates.
maryjane m.
Yes! I absolutely love my xb. I will continue to drive it until it will not run any longer. It has far exceeded my expectations when I first purchased it.
Matt L.
Yes it is. It gets good gas mileage and it has cheap to maintain. I have never had problems with it I just make sure the oil is changes and the tires are good and it runs.
Marion S.
It's my fourth one so yes I'd say so. Great on gas and fun to drive. You can fit into many small spaces that most vehicle's would have trouble getting into.
Michael G.

How Reliable Is The 2006 Scion xB?

It has been very reliable and has had very little repair costs. It always starts, is fun to drive and is perfect for me.
maryjane m.
I would say that it has been very reliable, but there are a few issues with it. The car 'squeals' as if the belts are going bad, but the shop keeps telling me that they cannot find anything wrong with... Read More
Matt L.
Yes my car is 13 yrs old and the only things I have had to do was change the spark plugs and a belt other than that I put gas in it, change the oil and balance and rotate the tires and it runs.
Marion S.
No problems. I just have to do the brakes and keep up with the oil changes and its golden. I have almost 200k on the odometer and its still running strong.
Michael G.

Is The 2006 Scion xB A Good Value?

16,000+ I found it a very good value. It was less than other cars I was looking at and I researched it very thoroughly before buying. Waited 2 years before it became available in my state.
maryjane m.
I think it is a very good value car. I purchased mine brand new in 2006 for under $19,000 with a lot of extra features added on.
Matt L.
I think it was 15,000 total when it was purchased. Yes it was a good value and I just do what I think is minimum maintenance.
Marion S.
I bought it uses for 2700 a couple years ago and it's definitely been worth it. My wife has the other one and both have been great to us.
