The 2018 Mercedes GLC lasts around 200,000 miles with some fuel pump and spark plug issues reported. At $22,500 to $69,570, it’s a decent value for a luxury SUV, although owners should be prepared for higher maintenance costs as it ages.

The cargo space is a bit smaller than some competitors, maintenance costs are high and the technology interface is frustrating to use.

The Mercedes symbol denies a classy and dependable car.
Love the safety features on each side mirror that alerts you when a car is approaching and not to merge in traffic. Have no complaints.

Mercedes Benz: drive with comfort.
Love the vehicle, has really smooth brakes and gas where you do not feel when you brake/speed. Features are great with back camera, iPhone Bluetooth connector. However, I have been having problems with my phone charging. It will show a colorful hazy screen when connected to phones randomly.

Great performance, no issues since I purchased the vehicle, smooth ride, comfortable interior. Incredible safety/convenience features. Only sub-par experience is the remote start. Vehicle turns off immediately after you open the door with remote start. Great 360 degree camera.

This is one of the safest vehicles on the market. The driver assistance in parking and blind spot is incredibly helpful and has saved me many times.

Stunningly beautiful but not pleasing when it comes to the size on the inside.
It has a nice aesthetic but incredibly tight and compact when sitting in it. I find it incredibly uncomfortable when driving alone, so having to take multiple people on a ride can get hot and stressful with such small rooming. Though despite this, the car itself looks incredibly nice.

A great SUV with poor reliability
Nice equipment, good mileage, pleasant ride and comfortable. The reliability is mediocre and it makes the car unpleasant

The car doesn't have user friendly controls, doesn't even by have an on and off switch for the radio.
Controls are not user-friendly. Uses only premium fuel. Has no spare tire.

4-door and all wheel drive with a panoramic sunroof are nice features.
Apple carplay messes up a lot. The sensors that beep to tell you are about to hit something go off randomly when nothing is near you. The seats are comfortable but not overly soft. The backseat has an ok amount of space but two car seats basically do not allow for a third person or a medium sized dog to also fit.

Vehicle is not soundproof.
For a somewhat luxury vehicle, the noise level inside the vehicle is too loud when driving at speeds of over 55 mph. It is as if the windows are not sealed. Also, mb likes to use run flat tires and I have had to replace the tires twice in 2 years. They do not hold up.

What Do Critics Say About the Mercedes GLC?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2018 Mercedes GLC offers a lot of advanced features for the money, with good owner satisfaction scores as it ages.
  • Edmunds rates the 2018 GLC at 4/5, enjoying the performance from the V8 engine, but doesn’t like the frustrating technology interface.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the GLC a 3.9/5, praising the extremely luxurious interior, but owners don’t like the lack of cargo space compared to other small SUVs.

What Common Problems Does the 2018 Mercedes GLC Have?

Common problems found on the 2018 Mercedes Benz GLC Class include a reduction in fuel pressure, the engine misfiring, along with wet carpet on the driver’s side near the pedal box. Overall, these problems are average for a small luxury SUV, but repair costs are high since parts and labor are more expensive than many competitors.

A reduction in fuel pressure is the most widespread complaint from 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC owners, showing up at around 35,000 miles. The fuel pump is a known weak spot which can wear out and fail. Replacing the fuel pump costs around $1,200, depending on local labor rates.

The engine misfiring has also been reported by some GLC owners at roughly 60,000 miles. Usually, the spark plugs will need to be changed out to solve the problem. Installing new spark plugs costs $650 to $900 depending on the engine in your GLC, and is just part of normal maintenance.

Wet carpet on the driver’s side floor near the pedal box is another complaint on the 2018 GLC. The problem is caused by a clogged or disconnected sunroof drain line which will allow water to leak out. Cleaning out and reconnecting the drain line costs around $200 for labor, and solves the problem.

There are 14 recalls on the 2018 Mercedes GLC, which is worse than many other small SUVs on the market. Many of the recalls cover air bag inflators, which are common across all makes and models. The most serious recall covers the starter power supply cable, which Mercedes will replace for free on affected models.

How Long Will the 2018 Mercedes GLC Last?

A well-maintained 2018 Mercedes GLC can last around 200,000 miles before it becomes too expensive to keep running, which is shorter than the long-lasting Lexus RX. Regular annual maintenance costs are higher than many competitors, according to data provided by Repair Pal, at $1,023 per year.

As a used 2018 Mercedes GLC reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history owners should be prepared to replace the stabilizer bar links for $200, suspension air compressor costing $550, along with the control arm which costs around $1,480.

Entertainment technology is very good with a standard 7-inch screen in the dash with smartphone integration. Optional upgrades include a larger 8.4-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a high-powered Burmester surround-sound system.

Standard safety technology is very good offering:

  • Rearview camera
  • Crosswind alert
  • Driver drowsiness monitoring
  • Forward collision warning
  • Emergency brake assist
  • Mercedes Pre-Safe

Optional driver assistance features include:

  • Head-up display
  • Blind spot monitoring

Is the 2018 Mercedes GLC a Good Value?

Yes, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC is a decent value if you’re looking for an SUV which offers decent luxury features and performance, although maintenance costs get expensive as it ages. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $22,500 to $69,570, making it more than an Acura MDX or Lincoln MKX. When new, the price range was $40,050 to $80,750. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC has a very comfortable and luxurious interior. The cabin is a well-crafted blend of high-quality materials, such as soft leather, brushed metal, and polished wood, creating a serene environment that is both sophisticated and relaxing. The GLC’s seats provide an ample amount of support and cushioning for all body types. The front seats offer multi-way power adjustments, allowing for perfect positioning and long-haul comfort, while the rear seats have ample legroom and headroom to accommodate adults comfortably, even on longer trips.

Regarding ride comfort, the GLC shines with its poised and refined handling. The standard suspension system adeptly absorbs road imperfections, providing a smooth ride, while the optional air suspension provides an even more cushioned and adjustable ride quality. The cabin is also remarkably quiet, with minimal wind and road noise intrusion, adding to the overall sense of tranquility.

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The Mercedes-Benz GLC was introduced for the 2016 model year, as a replacement for the outgoing GLK.

2016: First model year for the Mercedes GLC offering new styling, technology and cabin.

2017: Sportier AMG GLC 43 model introduced, and a minor shuffling of features.

2018: New GLC 350e plug-in hybrid available, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto offered, and the new high-performance AMG GLC 63 added.

2019: A household outlet and heated front seats are standard, and there’s an optional off-road engineering package.

2020: The highly-rated MBUX infotainment system is added to the lineup, along with a more powerful four-cylinder engine.

2021: GLC 350e plug-in hybrid model discontinued.

How Does the Mercedes GLC Compare to the Competition?

The 2018 Mercedes GLC is a very good compact luxury SUV offering a lot of nice features, although the ownership costs get expensive as they age due to the high parts and labor costs.

The Mercedes GLE is a larger SUV offered by Mercedes which costs about $3,500 more. Passenger room is better in the Mercedes GLE, while the Mercedes GLC has more responsive and nimble steering. We recommend the Mercedes GLC for most shoppers unless you need the extra passenger room found in the GLE.

The Lexus RX is another competitor, which can be found for roughly $5,000 more. Long-term reliability ratings are better in the Lexus RX, while the Mercedes GLC offers a lot more luxury for the money. We recommend the Lexus RX since it’s much more affordable to own.

Luxurious mid-sized SUV - great for one person or families.
The glc-300 is the perfect size for a more compact SUV. It is very easy to drive and parallel park, while at the same time has plenty of room and trunk space. The technology/widescreen coupled with the high quality leather and interior finishings are that of a luxury vehicle. This is my first SUV, and it couldn’t be a better fit.

The vehicle is pretty great. It has comfortable seats, pretty ergonomic, and adjustable headrests. It also features memory seat adjustments which is great for families that share cars. Nice back up camera and sensors all around the car.

It is a great car, but wish more technology.
It is a great car - comfortable, good performance, lots of nice features, looks classy. Gas mileage is very good - much better than I expected. My only niggle with the ride is that the car can judder on bumps - I have the upgraded wheels, and I have read in other reviews that the larger wheels can be detrimental to the ride - I can attest that those reviews are accurate. Not a huge deal, but noticeable. Another niggle on a car at this price point is that the park distance control sensors are not included on anything but the highest package (I got premium package 1, note 2). Again, not the end of the world, but a bit surprising - I made the mistake of assuming that it was there.

Controls are not user-friendly. Uses only premium fuel. Has no spare tire.

Everything I need, nothing more.
Love it. No issues of any sort. Fun to drive, nice to look at, comfortable interior. Has all the features I need without extras. User interface could be a bit more intuitive. Eco mode is a bit annoying, as it is a bit loud when it starts back up and the ac is very weak when it is engaged.

My white mercedes-benz glc 300.
I wish it had more safety features such as lane change, back up sensors, windshield driving guidance notifications. Performance has been good so far. I really like the tire pressure notification & love my back up camera & panorama sunroof. The reliability has been really good so far. It is a very comfortable ride. I do wish it had cooling seats since I live in Texas.

The gear when it shifts from reverse to drive, the car slides back.
Like: design, comfort, options. Dislike: low miles per gallon, reverse gear (slides back when changing to drive).

A great SUV with poor reliability
Nice equipment, good mileage, pleasant ride and comfortable. The reliability is mediocre and it makes the car unpleasant

The Mercedes symbol denies a classy and dependable car.
Love the safety features on each side mirror that alerts you when a car is approaching and not to merge in traffic. Have no complaints.

That it drives very nice and smooth.
I love how it drives very smooth and how luxurious it is. It is also very nice looking. I don't really have any complaints about it.

Smooth and easy to drive.
Car is reliable, quiet, and comfortable to drive. Gets decent gas mileage. The only thing I wish was that the car manual button and the eco buttons weren't in the middle of the arm rest area. Apple carplay is also glitchy from time to time. Other than that it is a beautiful car that drives great and fits a large dog or up to 5 people comfortably.

The paint of the car and how shiny my car is.
My car is a nice and durable for me enough to drive it. I like the interior in the car and I love how smooth its drives. The black paint on the car makes it look so nice and clean and I really admire everything about my car. I would prefer this car for anyone because they will love it the same way I do.

The very best high end luxury car.
Mercedes glc is the best car I ever own. Drive very smooth. The suspension is great over bumps and potholes. Very high end quality. The service team in Bellevue is great. They treat their customers like a millionaire. Highly recommended everyone should get Mercedes.

Smooth performance
Have owned this vehicle for 6 months. One of the smoothest riding vehicles I have owned. There is no lean or roll when taking ramps entering highways. The acceleration is excellent and highway mileage is approximately 26-27 mph.
