Gray 2003 Oldsmobile Alero GX From Front-Driver Side

Are you considering a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero GX as your next vehicle? If so, we have all the information you will need to make an informed decision about whether or not this is the right vehicle for you.

What makes the 2003 Oldsmobile Alero GX such a good vehicle?

The Alero is a mid-size coupe or sedan that comes in either a 2.2L I-4 or 3.4L V6 engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. This little car packs a punch with 140 to 170 horsepower and 150 to 200-lbs. of torque, depending on which model you choose.

Of course, there’s a whole lot more to this timeless classic. So, if you would like to learn more, keep reading. We are going to give you enough information to decide whether this is the car for you.

Looking Back at the Oldsmobile Alero

The Alero was short-lived as it was only produced from 1999 through 2004, and it came in a coupe (2-door) or sedan (4-door) body style. As you know, Oldsmobile, usually referred to as an “Olds,” is no longer in business.

Oldsmobiles were produced by GM, and the Alero shared the same motor as the Pontiac Grand Am, another now-defunct carmaker (Pontiac). Interestingly enough, the last Oldsmobile model that was ever rolled off the line was the Alero, and that was in 2004. So, who knows, if you buy one, it might be a valuable classic someday.

The Alero’s Available Model Options

All of the four Alero model options come in either a coupe or sedan trim.

  • GX – Base model – 2.2L I-4 engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, 15″ steel wheels, and cloth seats
  • GL1 – One level up from the GX base model – 2.2L I-4 engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, 15″ aluminum wheels, and premium cloth seats
  • GL2 – Two levels up from the GX base model – 3.4L V6 engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, 16″ aluminum wheels, and premium cloth seats
  • GLS – This is the Alero top-of-the-line model – 3.4L V6 engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, 16″ polished aluminum wheels, and leather seats

All Aleros have front-wheel drive, a five-person seating capacity, and feature front bucket seats. The back seat is sufficient in the sedan model; however, because of the coupe’s smaller stance, the back seat is rather narrow. So, fitting three people in the back seat of the coupe is quite uncomfortable.

The Look and Feel of the 2003 Oldsmobile Alero GX

The Alero has an attractive sporty look and appeal with slender rounded lines and spoked wheels. So, it doesn’t come with that boring, “nothing special” look that some sedans have.

The engine is quite peppy, and it gives you more than enough speed for its size. So, you won’t be disappointed there. And, you will never find yourself without enough power to get up and go. As far as the way it handles, it’s a very light car, but it’s nothing more than average in how it rides and drives.

However, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Basic but Nice Interior Features

You have to remember; this is a 2003 vehicle, so there’s no new technology on it. But if you are looking for an Alero, you probably already know that. There are no radio steering wheel controls, no Bluetooth, or the like.

However, this vehicle does come with a CD player and tilt steering. It also comes with power locks in the GX base model and power windows, doors, and remote keyless entry on the GL1 and GL2 models.

The GLS model comes with all that and more. The GLS also comes with OnStar, power mirrors, leather seats, a CD player, and a cassette player.

WOW, that’s really a step back in time now; isn’t it? Can you imagine paying a premium price just to get a CD and a cassette player? But who knows… perhaps you still have boxes of old CDs and cassettes you would like to jam to while driving!

There’s nothing like an oldie but goodie in just about everything in life. So why not consider an Alero?
