When it comes to keeping your car or truck working its best, oil changes are an important part of the process. Using the right oil is also important to get optimal performance out of the engine.

For a 2007 Chevy Silverado, a specific type of oil makes a world of difference.

What kind of oil does the 2007 Chevy Silverado use?

A 2007 Chevrolet Silverado needs an oil that meets GM standard GM6094m and has a viscosity of 5W30. The truck requires synthetic oil. The V6 engine holds 4.5 quarts while the V8 engine holds 6 quarts.

Do you have more questions about how to change the oil on your 2007 Chevrolet Silverado? This article will go into detail about the right oil to use and how to properly change the oil in your truck to keep it running well.

What Does Engine Oil Do?

Engine oil lubricates all of the moving parts in a vehicle’s engine. This reduces wear on moving parts and also lowers friction. Using the right engine oil helps your engine last longer and improves its efficiency.

Engine oil also helps protect the engine. Sludge and varnish are commonly found in engines and can damage parts. Oil protects the parts.

Engine oil has weight, and that affects its viscosity, or thickness. Using the properly formulated oil will help your car operate properly. The code 5W30 refers to the weight and viscosity.

How to Change the Oil in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

Do you want to save money by doing your own oil changes? Check out this video that will show you how to do it on your own. Then read the step-by-step instructions below.

  • Changing the oil in your Chevrolet Silverado is something you might be able to do on your own with a little bit of know-how. It takes less than 15 minutes from start to finish.
  • To begin, access the filter and drain pan by putting the vehicle up on jacks or ramps. Be sure to do so safely. Grab a drain pan and put it under the oil filter.
  • Use an oil filter wrench to turn the filter counterclockwise. This will break the seal, allowing some oil to drain out. Let it drain for a bit; then unscrew and remove the oil filter.
  • Clean the seal area and lubricate the oil filter rubber seal with clean motor oil. Then, install the new oil filter by twisting it in the clockwise direction. Tighten by hand only.
  • Now you’re ready to do the oil. Move the drain pan to sit under the drain plug. Break the drain plug’s seal with a 15mm wrench and unscrew it. Set it to the side. Allow all of the oil to drain.
  • After the oil drains, clean the threads and sealing surface of the plug, and reinstall the plug. Make sure it is tight.
  • Next, fill the oil tank with 5W30 synthetic engine oil. Check under the vehicle for leaks. Turn on the engine and let it run to circulate the oil. Make sure the oil pressure gauge hits an appropriate level.

Buying a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado? Check its Vehicle History First

Failing to change the oil regularly can lead to serious engine problems. If you’re in the market for a 2007 Chevy Silverado, always check the Vehicle History first to avoid potential problems. Make sure your investment is worthwhile!
