A race car that makes a great daily driver. Does it exist? Yes, it does, and it’s called the Porsche 911 Turbo. Time to take a look at one of the most iconic vehicles of all time, and learn what makes it special.

What features are included in the 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo?

The Turbo is the highest trim for the 911. It has a 3.6 6-cylinder engine that produces 480 horsepower thanks to its twin turbos. All-wheel drive and ceramic composite brakes help to make the horsepower manageable. The full leather interior and Bose stereo system provide luxury.

This car is for car people — those that want high performance not confined to the track or special occasions. The kind of car you want to drive no matter where you are going. We will take a closer look at the 911, and what makes the Turbo so appealing.

The 2007 Porsche 911

Porsche offers an overwhelming amount of choices for the 911. There are a total of 13 options when you combine the body style and power train options.

The base model is the Carrera. It’s available as a coupe or cabriolet. It offers two engine choices: The 3.6 liter provides 325 horsepower, and the 3.8 gets 355 horsepower.

The GT3 and GT R3 don’t have quite the horsepower of the Turbo. However, the 415 horsepower engine is paired with an active suspension and limited-slip differential. The GT R3’s rear end is 1.7 inches wider, providing better stability.

The Targa has the same engine options as the Carrara. It also has a panoramic moonroof that is nearly 5 feet. It has power opening and closing at any speed. When the roof is closed, you can access the glass hatch. If you fold the rear seats, you have 8 feet of cargo space.

All 911’s have a choice between a standard and automatic transmission. The 6-speed manual is fun to drive, but the Intronic S five-speed automatic also allows manual shifting.

The 2007 911 Turbo

The 911 Turbo is only available as a coupe with all-wheel drive. The rear-mounted 3.6-liter engine gets 480 horsepower. It gets 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

The twin turbos have adjustable turbine blades. There are gills on each side of the car that send air to the intercoolers.

The forward-leaning spoiler and the underbody extensions help increase aerodynamics and keep the power on the ground. 19-inch wheels also add to the performance and aggressive look of the car.

The six-speed manual transmission reaches 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. The updated 5-speed Triptronic automatic transmission reaches 60 mph in only 3.4 seconds, and 100 mph in 8.3 seconds.

In years past, there was no question that a well-driven manual would outpace an automatic. However, the Tiptronic transmission allows you to power brake. This loads the turbo, building boost before the light turns green.

The only way to do this in a manual is to slip the clutch excessively, which can damage the transmission.

The Tiptronic also keeps the turbo loaded when it’s shifting. The Tiptronic has a time of 11.6 seconds in the ¼ mile, and the manual takes 11.8 seconds. If you have the opportunity to top out the speed on the 911, you can expect to reach 193 mph.

You can still shift gears manually, but it’s designed differently than a paddle shifter. Instead, there are shifting switches on both sides of the steering wheel. You can up- or down-shift without taking either hand off the wheel.
