Honda put their all into making the 2010 CR-V as dependable as possible. Despite their efforts, it’s had many issues crop up through the years, most of which came to light later on. At that point, all that was left to do is to send out recalls and technical service bulletins.

Did Honda send out any 2010 Honda CR-V air conditioner recall notices?

As of August 2020, no, but owners have shared a variety of related complaints, such as:

  • AC doesn’t blow as cold as usual
  • Unsatisfactory AC performance
  • AC system makes a lot of noise

Fortunately, throughout this article, we will share info about the likely cause of the 2010 Honda CR-V complaints listed. Then, you can use what you’ve learned to seek out repairs and restore the function of your AC system.

Air Conditioner Compressor Clutch Could Wear out Prematurely

NHTSA Complaint ID: 10056005

The air conditioner clutch allows the system to kick on and off as needed to maintain the climate control’s set temperature.

When the compressor needs to turn on, the clutch allows the pulley to spin, using force from the engine. Once the cabin reaches the right temperature, the clutch disengages the pulley and lets the compressor rest between each cycle.

Unfortunately, on the 2011 CR-V, the air conditioner clutch has the potential to wear out prematurely. When this happens, the system may only blow out warm air and often makes a lot of noise. Honda decided to remedy this issue by extending their AC clutch warranty to seven years or 100,000 miles.

If your AC stops blowing cold, techs can fix the problem by replacing the AC clutch with a new one. They will also inspect the field coil and replace it if that part looks worn or damaged.

What’s the Best Way to Handle a 2010 Honda CR-V

When you need to find out if your 2010 Honda CR-V has open recalls, navigate to the homepage for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). You can just input your VIN or year, make, and model into their system for a full recall report.

If the system indicates your car is due for recall repairs, call the Honda customer service line at 1-888-234-2138. The representative will help you find an authorized shop and learn just what to expect.

Struggle
I have a CR-V ELX and it's been a dependable car, however last July on the way to the Outer Banks, my AC went out and started blowing warm air. I tried recharging it myself and swapping the cabin air filter to no avail. I took it to a mechanic in NC and they said they found something wrong and fixed it. I paid about $750.00. On the drive back to MD, it did the exact same thing. I took it to my mechanic and after another $1,000.00 or so, they said they found some sort of fan at the bottom of the compressor and it was working fine. Flash forward to today. First 80°+ day, so I turned on my AC on full cold. I got about 10 miles before the air started to go "coldish" and it just couldn't keep up with the heat, so I am heading back to my mechanic AGAIN (joy).

AC clutch can cause serpentine belt to break leaving the crv undrivable
Took 2010 to Honda dealer to replace AC clutch that had failed. After leaving car all day I was charged $270 for a 'diagnostic' and told a would have to bring it back for actual repair. In mean time I took a 600 mile trip and toward the end the bearing in the AC clutch froze up and broke the serpentine belt, leaving the car undriveable. Had to be towed and incurred great expense while waiting for it to be repaired. Honda did not mention that this could happen if I drove with a failed AC clutch.
