The 2011 Dodge Avenger was built with an equal focus on comfort and dependability. Although the carmaker hit their mark, issues still pop up on occasion. With most problems occurring after the cars left the lot, they could only issue recalls and technical service bulletins to remedy the issues.

Are there any 2011 Dodge Avenger Lux emissions recalls on record?

No, not as of August 2020, but there is one emissions-related investigation stemming from several complaints, including:

  • Engine stumbling at low speeds
  • Stalling while the engine idles
  • Accidents due to the stalled engine

Engine Stall Resulting From Purge Monitor Check

NHTSA Complaint ID: PE12016

The 2011 Avenger Lux has many electronic systems monitoring the function and efficiency of the emissions system. The powertrain control module, for example, regularly performs a purge monitor check to see if the hose attached to the valve is working properly.

Ideally, the system only runs this test during optimal conditions to avoid interrupting the function of the engine. But instead, it initiates the testing procedure while driving at low speeds or idling at a stop. By doing the test at that time, the vapors build up and cause the engine to stall out.

The fix? Techs just have to reprogram the powertrain control module to change the timing of the test. This update alters the parameters to ensure the system only runs the test when it won’t impact engine function.
