What is the oil type and capacity on the 2011 Toyota Camry?

The 2011 Toyota Camry holds between 4.7 and 6.4 quarts of oil depending on the engine. The preferred oil for this model is the SAE 5W-30 or SAE 0W-20, depending on the engine.

For better fuel economy and great starts in cool weather, the 2.5L engine does best with the 0W-20 engine oil, which is less viscous than other forms. The 3.5L (211 ci) engine uses 5W-30 engine oil.

In this article, you’ll learn more about your vehicle’s oil requirements.

Keeping up with Oil Changes is Essential

Toyota makes recommendations for owners of their vehicles so that they know how often to change the oil in their cars or trucks. For conventional oil, you’ll want to get your oil changes completed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

For synthetic oil users, you may be able to wait until you reach between 7,500 and 10,000 miles to take your vehicle in for oil maintenance.

Keep in mind that your oil type matters. The 2011 Toyota Camry uses either SAE 5W-30 or SAE 0W-20 oil, which could be conventional, a synthetic blend, or fully synthetic.

The kind of oil you choose will determine how often it needs to be changed and the likelihood of debris that could damage the engine. Full synthetic oil is the best since it’s the cleanest. Lower-viscosity oils tend to work best in the Toyota Camry engines.

2011 Toyota Camry: What is the Oil Type and Capacity?

The 2011 Toyota Camry will have one of two engines. The engine in your vehicle will determine which kind of oil you use.

If your vehicle has the 2.5L (152 ci) engine, then you should try to use 0W-20 oil for every oil change. In some emergencies, other oils may work, but this is the best oil to use. You will need 4.7 quarts of oil for this engine to work properly.

For the larger 3.5L engine, you will need 6.4 quarts of SAE 5W-30 oil. This is a slightly thicker oil, which lubricates the heavier engine better.

Don’t forget that you will always need to change your oil between 3,000 and 10,000 miles, depending on the oil you use and your vehicle’s usage of that oil. Your vehicle should let you know when your oil is low or a change is needed.

2011 Toyota Camry: Recalls and Oil Issues

Head over to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website if you’d like to know about all the recalls on the 2011 Toyota Camry. As of Oct. 4, 2020, there are five recalls and 529 complaints from consumers.

The good news is that none of the recalls are related to the engine or oil system, but consumers did have some complaints. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported 25 engine complaints.

One consumer complained that their vehicle had no oil leaks, yet it still required additional oil (around a quart) to be added every 700 miles.

Another stated that their oil “vanished” every 400 miles, assumedly meaning that they had to refill it.

Even a third consumer mentioned that the vehicle was using up to a quart of oil every 1,200 miles and that Toyota had a bulletin about the problem.

Toyota did put out a bulletin advising that consumers use 0W-20 oil in the vehicle starting in 2010 models onward. They advised synthetic oil only.
