2012 Ford Fiesta Transmission Recalls: A Full Overview

The 2012 Ford Fiesta is a fun little car with a whole lot of heart and a truly reliable nature. Although it was built to last, this car has experienced several issues over the years. The majority slipped by unnoticed at first, leading to technical service bulletins and recalls.

Does the Ford Fiesta have recalls on its transmission?

As of August 2020, it hasn’t had any transmission recalls even though there have been many complaints, such as:

  • Fluid leak between the engine and transmission
  • Transmission shudder while driving
  • Loss of power, lack of engagement, or no-start issues

Fortunately, by reading this article, you will learn all about the transmission issues affecting the 2012 Ford Fiesta. Then, you can use that info to get your car repairs done at an authorized shop with the confidence that comes from knowing you are taking all the right steps.

Intermittent Loss of Power or No Start Conditions

NHTSA ID: 10058674

The DPS6 automatic transmission used in the 2012 Ford Fiesta suffers from power losses, no-start issues, and poor gear engagement. When this happens, you might notice the gear selector lights on the instrument cluster start to flash.

The system will also store a handful of trouble codes in the powertrain control module, including U0101 and P0606.

Technicians have to follow a flowchart to determine how to best address this issue. Depending on which codes are present when they perform a scan, they may need to reprogram the transmission control module or replace it altogether. They may also need to recalibrate the module using the latest updates.

Since this problem can affect so many cars, Ford elected to extend the warranty coverage on that part to 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever came first. For cars with over 150,000 miles, they received additional coverage through June 2017.

Transmission Shudder During Mild Acceleration

NHTSA ID: 10092372

Car Transmission Clutch

The DPS6 automatic transmission is meant to smoothly move through the gears as you accelerate up to speed. Unfortunately, it is common for it to shudder while slowly accelerating off the line, making the car shake and rattle.

Along with this problem is its tendency to leak transmission fluid out of the clutch housing.

Techs have to perform a full inspection to track down the source of the problem. They can start by performing a diagnostic test to see if the clutch needs replacement or if it just needs new seals. They may also need to reprogram the transmission control module to ensure it has the latest calibration data.

Potential for a Leak to Develop Between the Engine and Transmission

NHTSA ID: 10148720

With normal use, the DP26 automatic transmission is known to develop a leak right it connects to the engine. The leak may be transmission fluid, engine oil, or both. Since the fluids have a similar appearance, technicians have to inspect the seals and move through other diagnostic steps to see where to do the needed repairs.

If the engine oil is leaking, they must replace the rear main seal. Transmission leaks, on the other hand, are handled with the replacement of the input shaft seal. In some cases, your car may need both seals replaced to remedy the issue in full.

Owner 2012 ford fiesta ses
So you want me to write a review...why? Its obvious the car/cars have and r continuing to have problems..regularly Of which ford really has done nothing but continue to provide these certain vehicles along with these same problems for years obviously of course knowing full well they are providing their customers with a vehicle that has consistently fell short transmission wise which is one of the most important part of any vehicle....bottom line end of story... Now I personally ...would much rather be spending my time right now writing a review thanking ford for producing and distributing such a wonderful vehicle and how much I appreciate having such a reliable ........but instead this is not the case why...doesn't doing good business for the exact reasons your doing business...in the long and short run really make your stupid corp. A lot more $ ie:profit all the way around...I mean seriously your like doing business with a 3rd world type company...at BEST... Seriously ...writing a review about my vehicle at this point...seems like a redundancy that frankly waisting my time and spinning my wheels ...I would rather not do it the way you seem to enjoy way to much in the wrong way...obviously u must be enjoying reading and hearing about this vehicle and their owners sorrows....I mean over and over again and again...3rd world ford company incorp. LLC ....therefore my review is this ...the problems concerning these models and there are other models too...I'm not going to even bother with the names ...I mean why ....ford motor company has failed in every way that a 3rd world company can...and of course even more so....in soooo ... Many ....many ways....thank you for allowing me to write this review about my vehicle.. And the platform you've provided for myself and the rest of us..thank you Sincerely... The 1 star rating is not for the car its for you and that's more stars then you and your company deserves....Its really to bad ...and it's really sad ...but worst yet you and your company are totally embarrassing .... I'm sure u don't know what I mean by any of this .... Pretty stupid...well I've got to go waist some more time doing some more dumb things...good luck continuing doing what you've all been doing....everybody's time matters....

Transmission recall
In 2019 Bought my daughters car from the used Hanson Ford lot in Grande Prairie, AB. Needless to say our Ford Dealership was well aware of the recalls out for this specific model and did not make any repairs while it was in their possession - but sold it to us instead. After she was having transmission issues we found out about recalls for this model. We took the car back to be fixed and our Dealership REFUSED to honor any recalls and informed us we would have to pay to get it fixed or to buy a new car. We have repeatedly tried to get this car fixed and have had service refused under warranty as the recall "expired". To me, if there is a recall especially where safety is concerned - it does not expire. All we want is to have a safe vehicle for my daughter and this is not it. Very unfortunate to have this happen and even worse to be given the attitude from the Dealership and Service department of it's not our problem it's yours now. I would give this a negative rating but I can't.

And here we are at 158,000
My car is now at 158,000 in the Ford Dealership repairshop due to the vehical began to miss fire , making howling noises, the transmission started making grinding err err noises while costing or going up hill. Shaking during acceleration, the a/c beganspewing freon and then resealing it's self back shut. The door continues to fly open but seat belt holds it from swinging. The clutchis now contaminated. I found oil leaking from in-between where the engine and transmission meet. The oil has appeared to have gone through some seals that appear to be not properly on the car. Of course I'm at 158,000 miles so guess who's responsible to have to have it fixed even though the clutch was already replaced a few years ago for the same thing. If I'm going to have to keep replacing the clutch every few years they better get it together and fix it this time for good. I take good care of my car and it has done nothing but falling apart over the last 7,000 miles.

My 2012 Ford Fiesta SEL
I bought the car back in 2013 although it is a 2012, well the battery had corrosion so I had to pay for that, then the car drives like a truck, had to keep getting jumped, the car shudders when driving hard to accelerate, had to pay for a clutch and still the problem is occurring, scared to drive thus car. Now I have to come up with 960.00 that I don't have and it is there fault. I'm on disability, my lungs are bad and this is crazy. And the list goes on

Yeah thanks for it I'm starting to experience all these issues at 151,000 mi thanks a lot. Also I'm glad that my back door keeps swinging open while I'm going down the interstate randomly because it won't close all of the sudden. Having to use my seat belt to keep it closed is not okay and either was my best friend's dog for almost flying out the car we had to catch it by its collar it was not okay! You'll be lucky if I don't sue you!

The Ford fiesta is most certainly not a "fiesta" anymore, it is a party pooper! American car manufacturer should know better than to put Spanish names on their vehicles. The car was racist from the the beginning and now needs to be deported.
