Green 2013 Ford Escape From Passenger Side

If you have a 2013 Ford Escape, one thing that will drive you crazy is if you can’t get the oil change light to turn off after an oil change is completed.

This article describes how to reset the oil change light in a 2013 Ford Escape.

How do you reset the oil change light in a 2013 Ford Escape?

Resetting the oil change light in a 2013 Ford Escape is actually very easy. It only requires you to use the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal (gas pedal) to trigger the computer to reset the gauge.

In this article, we’re going to show you how to reset the oil change light in your 2013 Ford Escape, so you can have the dashboard light turned off until it’s time to replace your oil again in the future.

The 2013 Ford Escape Oil Light

The 2013 Ford Escape uses the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor designed by Ford. This system automatically monitors the oil life in your vehicle without requiring you to check it manually (no dip sticks, here!). An advanced algorithm lets you know that your oil needs to be changed, popping up a notice on your dashboard.

The Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM) isn’t just calculating based on a standard rate of oil use.

Instead, it considers various operating conditions, temperatures, driving terrain, and more. If it says that you need an oil change soon, the chances are that it’s accurate.

The IOLM meter is located in your information display, so you can check it at any time to see how much oil life is left. At around 15% remaining, you’ll see a notice to have your vehicle serviced. If your vehicle’s oil life reaches 5%, then you’ll be asked to have your vehicle serviced right away. At 0%, it is past due, and your vehicle needs immediate attention.

How Do You Reset the Oil Change Light After Servicing?

Check Oil Light On Dashboard

After you get your vehicle serviced, most mechanics will reset the monitor for you. If they don’t, there’s an easy way for you to do it at home. It takes only a few seconds and will reset your oil life back to 100%, so the system can begin to monitor the decrease of oil in your system accurately again.

There is a quick fix for an oil service light that is still on in the 2013 Ford Escape, which you can view in the previously linked video. This will help you reset the lighting and remove the warning light on your dashboard.

The step-by-step instructions are to:

  • Turn on the ignition without turning on the engine
  • Press the brake pedal and gas pedal at the same time, holding them down
  • After doing that, the reset in progress informational panel will pop up
  • Taking these steps will trigger the vehicle to start the oil reset. This should correct the panel, turning off the oil light and restarting it to 100% oil life
