If you own a 2013 Nissan Altima and would like to perform your own oil change, you first need to know the type of oil that your vehicle takes as well as how much oil it requires.

Thankfully, we will cover both of these details in the article below so that you are able to change the oil in your 2013 Altima without issue.

What type of oil does the 2013 Nissan Altima use and what is its capacity?

The 2013 Nissan Altima comes available with two different engine options, and each one requires a different oil type and capacity. If your 2013 Altima is equipped with the six-cylinder VQ35DE engine, then you will need to use 5.1 quarts of SAE 5W-30 oil.

If your 2013 Altima is equipped with the four-cylinder QR25DE engine, then you will need to use 4.8 quarts of SAE 0W-20 oil.

How to Change the Oil in a 2013 Nissan Altima

To change the oil in your 2013 Altima, follow these steps:

  1. Prop open the hood of the car and lift the car up on a jack.
  2. Underneath the car, locate the oil drain plug on the oil pan. Place something underneath the plug to collect the oil; then remove the plug using a socket wrench and allow all of the oil to drain out.
  3. Once all of the oil is drained, replace the oil drain plug.
  4. Locate the oil filter on the passenger-side wheel well and remove it by turning it counter-clockwise.
  5. Rub some oil on the O-ring of your new filter; then install it in place of the old filter.
  6. Using the recommended oil type and amount for your Altima’s engine, place a funnel in the oil fill cap, and fill your car with the new oil.
  7. Check the dipstick to make sure that your levels are normal.

Should have watched this video first.
Always changed the oil in my VW Passat. VW Oil plug under the engine at bottom of oil pan. Assuming the same for the Nissan, I found a plug that was located in the middle of the bottom of what looked like an oil pan. Acting on my assumption, I drained the automatic transmission fluid out of the transmission on the Nissan. Added oil to Nissan. Now I had double the oil in the engine and no transmission fluid. Proof that when you assume, it does make an a*s out of you. Car does not move well with no transmission fluid. BTW, there is no dipstick measurement for the transmission fluid. Fortunately, the fluid was stored in an empty gallon jug so we knew how much replacement fluid to buy. Learn from mistakes.
