With its butch looks, available AWD and spacious three-row seating, the 2014 Dodge Journey offers a roomy and surprisingly versatile alternative to the average minivan. The 2014 Journey also threads the needle between smaller compact and larger midsize SUVs. Equipped with a standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine or an optional 3.6-liter V6, the 2014 Journey offers excellent efficiency and overall value.
Like many other vehicles, however, the 2014 Journey has a few recalls under its belt. These recalls often involve issues that could affect the overall reliability, drivability and safety of your vehicle. It’s important to have these issues addressed by your local dealer as soon as possible.
The following highlights several major recalls affecting the 2014 Dodge Journey.
Incorrect Label Information/FMVSS 110
NHTSA Recall ID: 14V711000
Recall Date: November 7, 2014
Components Involved: Equipment
On certain 2014 Dodge Journey vehicles, the tire placard labels may contain incorrect capacity and occupant/cargo combined weight information. Without the correct information, drivers may accidentally overload the vehicle and place occupants at risk of crash as a result. The inaccurate labels also make the vehicle non-compliant with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 110, “Tire Selection and Rims for Passenger Cars.”
The dealer will address this issue by installing the correct tire placard label in the proper area free of charge.
Engine Cover May Contact Exhaust Manifold
NHTSA Recall ID: 15V431000
Recall Date: July 7, 2015
Components Involved: Engine, Engine Cooling
On models equipped with the 2.4-liter engine, the plastic engine cover may detach from its mounting mechanism and make contact with the exhaust manifold, creating a potential fire hazard. Your local dealer will fix the issue by installing an improved mounting system.
Water May Enter the ABS Module
NHTSA Recall ID: 15V675000
Recall Date: October 19, 2015
Components Involved: Electronic Stability Control, Service Brakes, Hydraulic
This recall involves the Anti-lock Brake System module and Electronic Stability Control system. On affected vehicles, water can work its way into the ABS wiring harness and potentially leak into and damage the ABS module. The resulting damage may disable the ABS and ESC systems, resulting in a loss of vehicle stability during braking or evasive maneuvers, which elevates the risk of a crash.
The fix involves sealing the ABS wiring harness against water intrusion and, if necessary, the replacement of the ABS module. The headlamp and dash wiring harness may also be repaired to prevent further damage.
Power Steering Return Hose May Rupture
NHTSA Recall ID: 16V273000
Recall Date: May 6, 2016
Components Involved: Power Steering
Exposure to cold temperatures may cause the power steering return hose to turn brittle. Under these conditions, the hose may rupture upon engine start-up. The resulting loss of power steering assist will make it harder to turn the steering wheel, especially when parking and during other low-speed maneuvers. Your local dealer will replace the affected power steering return hoses and steel tubes as well as the power steering oil cooler as part of the recall campaign.
Inadvertent Airbag Deployment Due to Chafed Wire
NHTSA Recall ID: 17V432000
Recall Date: July 7, 2017
Components Involved: Airbags
On affected vehicles, chafed wiring within the airbag wiring harness inside the steering wheel may cause the driver’s frontal airbag to unexpectedly deploy. A sudden airbag deployment can potentially injure drivers and increase the likelihood of a crash. Your dealer will check the wiring harness for any signs of damage, make repairs or replacements as needed, and install a protective cover to prevent chafing of the wiring harness.
Fire Extinguisher May Be Clogged or Inoperable
NHTSA Recall ID: 17V824000
Recall Date: December 21, 2017
Components Involved: Equipment
On 2014 Dodge Journeys equipped with Kidde fire extinguishers as a part of their emergency roadside equipment, the fire extinguisher may suffer a clog and fail to function properly as a result. Some fire extinguishers may require excessive force to function properly. In some cases, the excessive force may cause the nozzle to break away from the valve assembly, resulting in a damaged fire extinguisher and potential injury to users. Your local dealer will exchange the recalled fire extinguisher for a suitable replacement at no cost.
Cruise Control Cannot Be Cancelled
NHTSA Recall ID: 18V332000
Recall Date: May 17, 2018
Components Involved: Electrical, Vehicle Speed Control
A defect within the cruise control system may prevent drivers from disengaging the system when the brake pedal is depressed or the system is manually switched off. Such a defect could cause the vehicle to maintain its current speed or even accelerate uncontrollably, significantly increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix involves a close inspection of the cruise control system and a software update of the powertrain control module. In the meantime, refrain from using the cruise control system until the recall issue is properly fixed. If you can’t disengage the cruise control system, firmly apply the brakes and shift the transmission into “Neutral.” Once it comes to a complete stop, place the vehicle in “Park.”
