Automakers work hard to ensure each model rolls off the assembly line being the best they can. However, even the best cars eventually have problems. If this happens after they’ve already been sold, the manufacturer may choose to issue a safety recall.

How many recalls does the AC system in the 2014 GMC Sierra have?

As of August 2020, zero. However, there have been other recalls, including:

  • Frontal airbags not deploying
  • Fire extinguisher is inoperable or clogged
  • Contamination of the chassis electronic module
  • Tie rod separation and loss of steering

While the air conditioning system has not been a problem in this vehicle, we will talk about some of the other concerns that vehicle owners have had with this vehicle. We’ll take a closer look at some of these concerns here.

Frontal Airbags Not Deploying

NHTSA Recall ID: 13V315000

This recall relates to the front airbags or the seat belt pretensioners. A failure to deploy can occur in some situations, resulting in an increased risk of injury in an accident. A software error is to blame for this problem.

The vehicles did not receive a necessary software update, resulting in the airbag’s sensing and diagnostic module software not performing the way it should. This recall impacted the 2014 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500.

Fire Extinguisher Becomes Clogged or Inoperable

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V267000

GMC Sierra GMC HD vehicles had a recall issued for the vehicle’s fire extinguisher. In some cases, it may not operate properly, failing to provide protection from fire and increasing risks.

These vehicles have a fire extinguisher with a plastic handle. Others have a push-button indicator fire extinguisher.

In either situation, these may become clogged. When this happens, it can stop the extinguisher from discharging as it should. Other times, it may require excessive force to activate it. In some cases, owners found that the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly. This can cause an injury to occur.

To fix this problem, GM had the manufacturer Kidde replace the fire extinguishers.

Contamination of the Chassis Electronic Module

NHTSA Recall ID: 14V614000

In this recall, impacted vehicles may have a chassis electronic module that develops a short. This can happen if the internal components become contaminated. This results in a short that may cause the vehicle to stall out. This can create a risk for an accident if the owner is driving.

This recall impacted all GMC Sierra vehicles for 2014, including Sierra HD. The company replaced the chassis electronic module on these vehicles to repair this problem.

Tie Rod Separation and Loss of Steering

NHTSA Recall ID: 14V246000

GMC Sierra vehicles manufactured from May 25, 2013 through March 31, 2014 may be at risk, which this recall addresses. In these vehicles, the tie rod attachment may not be tightened properly.

This can lead to the separation of that tie rod from the steering rack. If this were to occur, it can cause a loss of steering for the driver, leading to an increased risk of a crash occurring.

To fix this problem, GM notified owners and then inspected the inner tie rods at dealerships.

They ensured the tie rod was tightened properly, and, if not, they replaced the steering gear.

How Do You Handle an Open Recall for a 2014 GMC Sierra?

If you own or plan to buy the 2014 GMC Sierra, you’ll want to stay up to date on any associated recalls. To do this, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.

There, you can enter your vehicle’s vehicle identification number (VIN). The system will pull up all associated recalls related specifically to your vehicle. The system is very easy to use and will tell you if your vehicle has open recalls that have not been taken care of yet.

If a recall shows up in the system, it may be labeled as still pending. That means it has not been updated yet. Contact GM by calling a custom service representative at 1-800-462-8782.
