Carmakers aim to release models that are as safe and reliable as possible. Sometimes, problems do not become evident for some time, even years after they get sold. When this happens, they have to issue a recall to have repairs made to keep drivers safe.

Have there been any alternator recalls for the 2015 Chrysler 200?

While there is not a specific recall issued for the alternator, there are several that may relate to it. These include:

  • Transmission may shift unexpectedly to neutral
  • Intermittent connection C4 connector and PDC
  • Cruise control cannot be canceled
  • Automatic transmission not shifting into park

Transmission May Shift Unexpectedly to Neutral

NHTSA Recall ID: 16V529000

In this recall, only those Chrysler 200 vehicles with a nine-speed automatic transmission were affected. The recall was issued in July of 2016. In these cars, the transmission sensor clusters can develop insufficient crimps.

These should be located in the transmission wire harness. When this happens, it allows the transmission to shift to Neutral unexpectedly.

In situations where this occurs, it can leave the driver facing a change in the steering of and control over the vehicle. They may be at an increased risk of a crash.

To fix this, Chrysler had the dealerships reprogram the Powertrain Control Module.

They also inspected and reprogrammed the Transmission Control Module as needed.

In some cases, they had to replace the transaxle range sensor wire harness if damage was evident. This repair work began in November of 2016.

Intermittent Connection C4 Connector and PDC

NHTSA Recall ID: 15V47000

All 2015 Chrysler 200 vehicles manufactured between January 7, 2014 and September 23, 2014 were at risk of having electrical system concerns.

These vehicles have a Power Distribution Center (PDC) electrical connector that can, at random times, just lose power. This leads to various electrical components in the vehicle losing power and function.

This intermittent loss of power can cause the vehicle to simply stall without any warning. It can also cause key components to stop operating. This increases the likelihood that a crash can occur.

Chrysler notified owners of this problem and then had dealerships replace the C4 connector on the affected vehicles. They replaced them with a 12-wire split kit for those cars with a 3.6L engine.

For vehicles with a 2.4L engine, they replaced the transmission wiring harness completely. The work for these repairs began in October of 2015.

Cruise Control Cannot be Cancelled

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V332000

Car Cruise Control Button

This is a large-scale recall impacting various Chrysler vehicles, including the 2015 Chrysler 200. Over 4.8 million vehicles were recalled across the board due to an electrical system and vehicle speed control system failure.

In these vehicles, when the driver turns on cruise control, a defect can cause the feature to disengage randomly.

This is due to a short circuit in the wiring. That means the driver is unable to turn off cruise control either by pressing the brake pedal or by manually shifting it out.

Once the cruise control is on, the driver is unable to turn it off. As a result of this, the vehicle will maintain its cruise control speed or even accelerate. The driver is unable to stop this. It can lead to an accident.

To fix this problem, Chrysler required owners to bring vehicles into the dealership for the software to be inspected. A software flash on the engine and the powertrain control module were then completed.

They also alerted owners not to use the cruise control feature until the update was complete. The repair work for this recall began in June of 2018.

Automatic Transmission not Shifting into Park

NHTSA Recall ID: 15V090000

In February of 2015, Chrysler issued a recall for 2015 Chrysler 200 vehicles made between March 9, 2014 and December 15, 2014. It applies only to those vehicles with a nine-speed automatic transmission. In these vehicles, the automatic transmission parking pawl becomes contaminated.

In other cases, the park rod will break off or become dislodged from its proper position. As a result of this, the transmission cannot move from the driving function into the “Park” position.

In situations in which the shift indicator says “Park” but the vehicle is not actually engaged in this position, the vehicle can roll away. Drivers can be hurt. A crash can also occur.

Chrysler launched a repair starting in April of 2015 for this. They inspected all transmissions at local dealerships. If any contamination was present, they replaced it. They also replaced the park rod if it was out of position or broken.
