In May 2018, Dodge issued a recall for certain 2016 Dodge Challenger models, citing an issue with the wiring in the vehicle’s cruise control system that could prevent the driver from being able to disengage cruise control.

Typically, cruise control on the 2016 Dodge Challenger can be turned off either by pressing the brake or turning the system off manually using the steering wheel-mounted controls. However, a short circuit within the cruise control system may prevent these steps from working.

If the driver is not able to turn off cruise control, the vehicle is apt to maintain its speed or accelerate even when the brake is being applied, creating a serious accident hazard.

To repair this issue, Dodge is offering to inspect and repair the cruise control system on all affected models free of charge.

In July 2018 — just a few months after the first recall was released for the 2016 Challenger.

Dodge was forced to issue a second recall for nearly the exact same problem, this time for 2016 Challenger models that had been equipped with Mopar Stage 1 Kit Performance Packages Powertrain Control Modules (PCM) (part numbers P5160023, P5160025) or a Demon Crate PCM (part number 68412287AA).

On affected models, a short circuit in the vehicle’s wiring could prevent cruise control from being disengaged when the vehicle’s brake is pressed or when the driver tries to disengage it manually using the steering wheel-mounted controls.

If the driver is not able to turn off cruise control, the vehicle is apt to maintain its speed or accelerate even when the brake is being applied, creating a serious accident hazard.
