Key Points

  • The 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 hit the market with four trims including its namesake, the SLE, SLT, and sumptuous Denali. Three cabs, three bed lengths, three engines, and two transmissions create a mix of hardworking configurations.
  • The Sierra trim delivers all the basics such as steel wheels, bench seats, minimal radio, and an EZ Lift and Lower tailgate. This truck is engineered for the worksite.
  • Explore the SLE and discover hands-free calling, Apple CarPlay, carpeted floors, and a USB port. The AutoTrac transfer case takes the work out of switching to 4WD on slippery roads.
  • The SLT is designed for your bigger jobs with the 5.3L V8 engine, a beefed-up differential, and an integrated tow-prep package. You are also treated to heated leather seats and driver memory.
  • The Denali is dressed to the nines with its side steps, spray-on bed liner, and ventilated leather-trimmed seats. Navigation will keep you on track and on time.

2016 GMC Sierra 1500’s Multitude of Cab, Bed, and Powertrain Configurations Create a Truck Perfect for Virtually Any Lifestyle

The 2016 GMC Sierra was built with three cab options, three bed-lengths, as 2WD or 4WD, and with three engines. The regular cab seats up to three and is paired to a long or standard box. It is offered only on the Sierra and SLE trims.

The double cab can seat up to six, but legroom in the back is limited and features the standard box. The Sierra, SLE, and SLT trims provided this choice.

Find a crew cab on all four trims with a short box or the standard box only when built with 4WD. The crew cab features four full-size doors and provides a more comfortable ride for the entire family.

The 4.3L V6 285-horsepower engine comes standard. The 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 appears as an upgrade with the 4WD crew cab/standard box or on the SLT and Denali. An available 6.2L V8 engine and its 420 horsepower increase the towing capacity to 12,000 pounds with the proper equipment and configuration.

Base Sierra Delivers Minimal Style but Includes EZ Lift Tailgate and Cruise Control

The base trim for the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 starts with a six-speed automatic transmission and digital driver information display. Cloth bench seats, vinyl floors, steel wheels, and black bumpers announce its work truck class.

However, you are also treated to luxuries like air conditioning, cruise control, and Chevy’s exclusive Power Up/Power Down tailgate, which allows owners to electronically raise and lower the tailgate with one hand using a button inside the vehicle, on the key fob, or on the touchpad on the tailgate itself. Also, a lift assist function will power the tailgate closed merely by lifting up on the open gate slightly and holding it for a few seconds.

The dash on the 2016 GMC Sierra also includes a basic radio with no Bluetooth capability. A tire pressure monitoring system helps you stay safe while on the road.

Most Popular Combo of Conveniences Appear on SLE Trim, Such as Hands-free Calling and Heated Side Mirrors

The 2016 GMC Sierra 1500’s SLE trim includes many popular upgrades. If you selected 4WD, it includes the AutoTrac transfer case that will activate drive to all four wheels when needed without requiring driver input. The steering wheel has controls for cruise and hands-free calling. Carpeted floors soften its appearance inside. Wheelhouse liners, LED bed lighting, and power-heated side mirrors dress up the exterior. Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and a USB port connect your smartphone to the infotainment center. OnStar and SiriusXM are available for use with a paid subscription.

Get Ready to Tow in the SLT While Enjoying Seating with Leather Trim and Automatic Climate Control

The 2016 GMC Sierra 1500’s SLT trim offers capability and comfort. The 5.3L V8 engine is accompanied by a heavy-duty differential, an external transmission oil cooler, and a trailer hitch prep package. The eight-speed transmission features a tow/haul mode, and the cabin has leather-appointed seating, power seat, driver memory, and automatic climate control.

Exterior accents include a chrome grille and iconic “C”-shaped daytime running lamps. The side mirrors feature puddle lights and integrated turn signals. Other perks include remote start, a security system, and a garage door opener.

Polished Denali Features Navigation, Magnetic Ride Control, and Side Steps

When you want true luxury in an eminently capable pickup, consider the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali. Its magnetic ride control smooths out bumps in the road via sensors that read the terrain every millisecond, triggering damping changes in the electronic shock absorbers that replace conventional mechanical-valve shocks.

Additionally, hill descent control gives you added confidence when hauling the family travel trailer. Front and rear park assist alert you before you bump into the curb or the closed garage door. Your power leather-trimmed seat includes heat and ventilation.

Infotainment with navigation, a Bose sound system, wireless smartphone charging, and a power rear sliding window round out the interior amenities. Side steps and a spray-on bed liner complete its exterior.

Driver Assist Technology Appears Only as Part of Optional Package

The only smart driver-assist technologies offered for the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 are lane keep assist and forward collision alert. Sold as part of a package on the SLE, SLT, and Denali, it does not include adaptive cruise control or blindspot detection.

Also, the truck is missing autonomous emergency braking. If these options are key to your decision to buy, you will want to look at 2018 and newer light-duty pickups.

Get Muddy in the Standard Sierra or Wallow in Luxury in the Denali

If you are searching for a rugged worker beast of a light-duty pickup, the base 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 comes with perks not found on other trucks. Carpeted floors, cloth seats, and a dampened locking tailgate make it an attractive choice.

The SLE gives you a good blend of function and smart tech upgrades. Are you looking to haul or head off-road? The SLT adds the leather trim, driver memory, and tow prep that will take the sting out of road trips. Finally, if you want your pickup to provide as luxurious a commute as your sedan, check out the Denali.

Problems starting to occur 26000 miles
I chose the GMC Sierra Denali because of the looks and comfort. I was proud of my purchase lots of compliments. Looks can be decieving. About three months ago I noticed water inside the vehicle, driver side floor compartment. I didn't think to much about until it happened again and then again. I took it to the dealership several times and was told it was the satellite antenna so it was replaced and resealed. It happened again so I returned it again. This time I was told it was the sunroof. I was told it was resealed and was fixed. It happened yet again. I am due to take it back yet another time. This week I've noticed, along with increased water in the floor, that the brake lights are remianing on causingthe battery to drain. The brake lights come on automatically when parked for several hours. I've never owned a GMC much less a Denali. I've worked extremely hard to be able to purchase such a vehicle. This was an investment for me, one that I am slowly regretting.

Trajectory prediction rear view camera. Hid headlights. Roomy and comfortable.
The 2016 GMC sierra 1500 base model served all my needs as a married father of one. Rubber floors, vinyl seats make maintenance and cleaning rapid. As a career firefighter I demand durable reliability and value for my money. 60, 000 miles in 2 years and no problems! My phone plugs into the truck and the nav from my phone jumps onto the touchscreen, it is super convenient. All 4 windows auto down, drivers auto up. It is a base model truck with midrange features, I never feel “basic” going out on the town with ladies, it is a working man’s truck with some nice options!

My GMC truck is base model so there is nothing really spectacular about it.
GMC makes the greatest trucks you can ever buy. My only regret is that I didn't have enough money to buy the top of the line GMC which is the Denali GMC sierra. This right now is my dream truck and cannot wait till one day I can get it. My GMC sierra is base model and I am satisfied with the performance of it. I've had it for almost 4 years and no major problems have came out of it. I got the truck at 24,000 miles and now I have 120,000 miles on it so I have really put my truck to the test these last 4 years.

GMC sierra 1500 slt is the way to go.
My GMC sierra came with a majority of the things that the highest trim of the Nissan titan came with. I have heated and cooled seats in the front. The back seats are normal. But the comfort in this vehicle is unbelievable. There is so much space to move around and you could easily fit 5 people in it. I haven't had any major issues but I did purchase the extended warranty just because I didn't want to be stuck with any major repairs.

A truck that rides like a luxury car.
The GMC sierra Denali is the most comfortable and luxurious truck I have ever owned. I rides more like a luxury car than a truck. I have had numerous friends comment on how good the truck rides and how comfortable it is. My truck is my first choice for any long trip. It is a joy to drive. My truck is also a workhorse. It tows my 26 foot, 4,000 boat with ease. I can hardly tell that it is attached.

An interesting detail is the touch screen XM radio.
The comfort is pretty good and the touch screen radio is a plus. The v8 engine is strong but the truck drives quiet. The truck has a nice exterior and lights. Equipped with XM radio. The truck's technology is great. The truck is reliable I have had no issues with it and the dealership offers free service and wash when you take it in. The truck is nice for it being a sle package.

Black on black is beautiful.
It is great for a base model. Honestly wouldn't ask for more than what I it has. The back up camera does come in handy when backing into small spaces. I would only upgrade to have fancy features like seat warmers and keyless ignition through that is something that can be added at any time. A charging port in the back would be nice but I am sure the newer models do have that.

The 2016 GMC Denali is such a wonderful buy. Offering comfort to all who buy.
It is a great vehicle. It has heated and cooled seats, leather interior, widescreen display for the radio with Sirius XM and rear cameras. It has sensors all around to prevent crashes and handsfree music capabilities. I could keep listing extras. This truck is luxurious and comfortable. It is like driving on a cloud. It is spacious with room for the whole family.

Transmission is c**p
I bought a 2016 GMC SLT crew cab 4wd brand new. At 30k miles i had to replace the cat luckily it was under warranty and now at 79K miles the transmission went out and is not under warranty which is going to cost me 5k to replace.this truck is not used to tow anythink and is used to travel for work. The only off road this truck has seen is a dirt road.

Roach coach 16 GMC number 1.
2016 GMC sierra sle crew cab. It has great performance, as long as you are not a race car driver. I added a suicide knob, weathertech floor mats, power running boards, a sprayed in bedliner, a bed divider, and an undercover bed topper. As long as you make all your service appointments and keep gas in it, you'll have no problems!!

Blue 2016 GMC 1500 slt z71.
Love that it has the capability of slowing down if the car in front slows down. Also love how comfortable and smooth it drives. The best part is that it has the capability of saving your seat settings and has automatic brights. It also has heating steering wheel and heating and cooling front seats.

2016 GMC sierra Denali 1500. The pick up truck with great comfort.
I have a GMC sierra Denali and love all the features. A pick up truck can feel big and bulky but the sierra is quite comfortable with 3 way adjustable seats, adjustable foot pedals, heating and cooling seats. The dual ac system allows driver and passenger to modify their own temperature.

2016 GMC sierra slt all terrain.
I really like the truck. I just wished I had bought a crew cab instead of an extended cab. The fit and finish of it is great. The features are nice. I wished I could have gotten cooled seats. I have had no issues with it. Just general maintenance, such as oil changes AMD and tires.

Denali - as comfortable as my recliner!
This GMC sierra Denali 1500 is a great truck. Comfortable and the controls are easy to reach and easy to see. It starts every time and runs perfectly. There have been no issues with performance. The navigation system is top notch and has always gotten us where we want to go.

2016 GMC sierra slt all-terrain.
The trim level is outstanding. Every option I could want, but none of the unnecessary options that come on the Denali. Seats are super comfortable. Long road trips are no problem. Plenty of room for me in the front with 2 car seats in the back and I am 6’4” 200 lbs.

Pros and cons of my GMC Denali 2016.
Gas guzzler, takes lots of d.E.F, radio screen went out on me (can still listen to radio just cannot preset buttons anymore) other than that I love my truck. It rides nice, has plenty of storage, all my kids fit comfortably. Hauls my trailer smoothly.

2016 GMC Sierra Denali Great power and style.
Issues with it leaking water in 2 different spots, but the power (6.2L) and trim (Denali) are fantastic.

It's a quality pick up truck. American make so it's inexpensive. Very reliable
