If the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee key fob battery starts to go dead, you might not be able to unlock the doors with the key fob. It’s easy to replace the battery yourself, saving you some money at the dealership.

What kind of battery goes in a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee key fob?

The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee key fob uses a CR2032 battery. We suggest a well-known name like Energizer or Duracell.

Where Can I Find a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Key Fob Battery, and How Much Will it Cost?

You can find CR2032 coin batteries at most stores that carry batteries, including department stores, grocery stores, and drug stores. The price averages around $1 to $4 for a single battery. Try to find a single pack – many times, coin batteries come in packs of two, but by the time the first one goes dead, the second one probably won’t last long.

However, if you have two key fobs, you can replace both batteries at the same time. Chances are, if one of the batteries died, the other one won’t be far behind.

Steps for Replacing a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Key Fob Battery

Before you start, make sure you have a new CR2032 battery and a small flathead screwdriver. If the battery has been sitting around for a while, check the date on the package to ensure the battery is not an old one.

  • Step 1: Insert the screwdriver into the seam on the key fob near the key ring.
  • Step 2: Gently press down on the screwdriver to pry the two halves of the key fob apart. Try to avoid twisting the screwdriver, as that could damage the plastic. Alternatively, you could put a thin piece of soft material on the head of the screwdriver to help protect the plastic.
  • Step 3: Make a mental note of the polarity of the old battery. Remove the old battery. Pay attention to the circuit board. If it moves or falls out, you’ll want to reinsert it in the proper position.
  • Step 4: Insert the new battery. In most cases, the positive side should face up.
  • Step 5: Snap the fob together.
