Are you thinking of buying a 2018 Nissan Rogue but are worried about ending up with a problem vehicle? Don’t forget to review how many recalls a model has and if the one you’re looking at has had any performed.
How many recalls has the 2018 Nissan Rogue had?
As of August 2020, the 2018 Nissan Rogue has had just one recall issued involving the backup camera. In this instance, the camera would not reset to the default position after restarting the car.
Thankfully, in this article, we’ll cover this recall in detail. We’ll also look at a recall petition that’s currently open involving a faulty emergency braking system.
Back-up Camera Malfunction
NHTSA Recall ID: 19V654000
The first recall on the 2018 Nissan Rogue was due to a fault with the backup camera, displaying a 360-degree bird’s eye view around the vehicle for precision parking assistance and backing up. However, the backup camera and display settings led to the first recall on the 2018 Nissan Rogue and Rogue Sport.
The backup camera could be adjusted so that it was not displaying the rear view behind the vehicle. However, the next time the vehicle was started, the backup camera would not reset to the centered, default position.
Nissan and Infiniti identified all of the affected Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) starting in September 2019, and recall notices went out to all 2018 Nissan Rogue owners on November 11, 2019. A software update was performed at Nissan dealerships to correct the backup camera issue at no cost to Nissan Rogue owners.
Recall Petition: False Automatic Emergency Braking
NHTSA received a defect petition to open an investigation into the 2018 Nissan Rogue AEB system in September 2019. The Center for Auto Safety alleges that the 2018 Nissan Rogues AEB system is delivering false positives. This meant that certain vehicles would begin braking when there was no object or obstruction in front of the car.
The NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) agreed to look into the allegations in the petition. So far, the ODI has located 129 complaints of false-positive engagement of the 2018 Nissan Rogues AEB System.
NHTSA will investigate whether the actions taken by Nissan to correct the problem were sufficient. NHTSA probes are methodical and take time, so it is unclear whether this investigation will ultimately lead to a safety recall.
