Perhaps most notably, every 2019 Camry is equipped with a suite of safety featues that include forward-collision control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure alert.

Despite its generous safety equipment, however, the 2019 Camry does have a handful of open safety recalls. If you drive a 2019 Toyota Camry, you’ll want to check to see if any of these recalls may affect your vehicle. If so, schedule an appointment with your local Toyota service center to have them remedied as soon as possible, so you can get safely back behind the wheel.

Defective Load Capacity Label

The first recall issued on the 2019 Toyota Camry affects more than 3,600 Camry, C-HR, Avalon, Highlander and other models. Specifically, it was found that the load-carrying capacity label on affected vehicles could become smudged or otherwise illegible over time. The danger here is that if the text on the label cannot be properly read, drivers may accidentally overload the vehicle and unintentionally increase their risk of getting into a crash.

Thankfully, the fix for this recall is quite simple. Toyota will provide new load-carrying capacity labels for all recalled vehicles. These labels can then be affixed over the old labels to display the correct load-carrying capacity.

Incorrect Load-Carrying Capacity

A similar yet separate recall was also issued on the 2019 Camry in June of 2019, after it was discovered that up to 1,325 Toyota vehicles may have the incorrect load-carrying capacity printed on the label itself. This issue is specific to models equipped with optional, factory-installed floor mats. When the load-carrying capacity was calculated for these vehicles, the weight of the floor mats was erroneously included—resulting in incorrect capacity numbers.

As a result of this issue, drivers could unknowingly overload their vehicles and increase the risk of being involved in a crash. Toyota is addressing this recall by providing replacement labels with the correct load-carrying capacity for all affected vehicles. These labels can be affixed over the old labels to display the proper capacity.

Occupant Classification System Calibration

This recall, which was issued by the NHTSA in August of 2019, affects up to 680 Camry models. With this recall, it was found that the Occupant Classification System (OCS) on affected vehicles may have been incorrectly calibrated during manufacturing. As a result, the front-passenger airbag and knee airbag may not properly deploy in the event of a crash. This could increase the risk of serious injury or death to front-seat passengers.

Vehicles with this issue also fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard requirements by failing to have functioning occupant crash protection in place.

The repair for this recall is a total recalibration of the car’s OCS, which can be done at any Toyota dealership service center at no charge.

Fuel Pump Failure

In January of 2020, another recall was issued on the 2019 Toyota Camry and other models, including the 4Runner, Highlander, Tacoma and Sienna. This recall, which affects as many as 1.8 million vehicles, involves the vehicle’s fuel system. Specifically, it was discovered that defects during the manufacturing of affected vehicles’ fuel pumps may make these parts prone to cracking, damage and failure. If a fuel pump failure occurs while the vehicle is in motion, this could result in a stall that could increase the risk of a crash.

When a fuel pump fails, drivers may notice a “check engine” warning light (and possibly other warning lights) illuminated on the dashboard, as well as a rough-running engine. If the vehicle stalls, the engine will most likely be unable to restart—which can create a dangerous situation on busy roadways or highways.

Toyota is addressing this issue by offering total fuel pump replacement on all recalled vehicles.
