The 2020 Dodge Challenger SXT is the base model for the 2020 lineup from this well-loved brand. As the base trim option, it doesn’t offer everything. However, with a starting price of $28,095, it definitely has some key features that help make it stand out. The vehicle is a two-door coupe featuring rear-wheel driver as standard with available all-wheel drive on the STX trim. This vehicle has a solid engine with a 3.6-L V6 engine under the hood. It gets an impressive 303 horsepower and 268 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s not as good as the other engine options on the other trim packages.
By comparison, the Hemi 5.7-L V-8 engine is far more impressive to thrill-seekers. It gets 375 horsepower. Or, those really wanting power can easily appreciate the 6.4-L V8 engine with 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque. The good news? You can upgrade the SXT engine to these bigger and higher performing engines if you decide to do so with the other trim models.
The SXT is a solid competitor against the trim models for both the Chevy Camaro and the Ford Mustang.
Check Out the Tech
The Challenger SXT does provide drivers with a lot of tech, even for a trim model. That includes the Uconnect 4 with a 7-inch touchscreen that’s bright and easy to use. This touchscreen comes preloaded with Apple CarPlay Support and Android Auto Integration. It offers keyless Enter n’ Go, something any Challenger driver should expect. It also supports Bluetooth devices with ease. It comes with an HD radio, hard disk drive media storage, and a Wi-Fi hotspot, again, not bad for a performance trim model.
When it comes to that 3.6-L engine, the EPA estimates on it are not that bad for a vehicle that’s designed for sports performance. It gets 19 city and 30 highway, for a combined 23 miles per gallon. That is the most efficient trim model, of course.
Also onboard are a suite of features to make driving easy to do. That includes a ParkView Rearview Back Up Camera. The navigation system is optional, which is a bit of a disappointment for most of today’s drivers. However, you do have other features, including ABS, tire pressure monitor, brake assist, stability control, and traction control, as standard features.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 5-star rating for safety for this car is good, but there are some key safety limitations in the front star rating, especially with the front passenger and driver side. Of course, if you’re looking for power and performance, safety is probably not the biggest priority. Yet, the 2020 Challenger SXT could do better, especially at this price point.
Want to upgrade? You can do that with the rear parking aid, cross-traffic alert, and blind spot monitor. However, if you’re looking for features such as night vision, lane departure warning, or lane-keeping assist, those are not available until you upgrade from the trim model.
Want More Features?
They’re available.
There are a few key additional packages you can add to the 2020 Dodge Challenger SXT. That includes the Alpine Audio Group with subwoofer package – if you want music on the road with you. You could also go with the Blacktop Package, which adds some pretty sleek features, including a nearly all-black body and trim.
The cold weather group provides some important updates like a heated steering wheel and a 180-amp alternator. The driver convenience group also adds all of those additional safety features mentioned earlier.
When it comes down to it, the 2020 Dodge Challenger SXT trim is a good option for those who want a flashy sports car but are OK with some lower-end features.
Remember: If you don’t like it, you can always upgrade pretty easily with several other trim options. Check out each car’s Vehicle History today.
