Overview of the 2020 Kia Stinger

The Kia Stinger is a newer vehicle for Kia. This mid-sized executive vehicle was first produced for model year 2018. Interestingly, the designer, Gregory Guillaume, noted that the vehicle’s design was based on the Coca-Cola bottle. While that may be the case, we’re concerned with what this vehicle has to offer. The five-door liftback vehicle got a new look for the 2020 model year.

The Kia Stinger has won several awards in its short life. One of them was the 2018 MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Awards for the “Best of the Year.” Since its sale, the vehicle has seen some interest from consumers. The 2019 model, which is the most recent sales reported, sold 13,861 in the U.S.

Is this vehicle right for you? It’s trying hard to be a major player in the entry-luxury sports model and does a good job under the hood. Yet, it’s a hard market to break into with the BMW. This could be a more affordable option for some with its starting price of $34,125.

Performance Features and Specs of the 2020 Kia Stinger

The 2020 Kia Stinger has four trim options. That includes the GT-Line, GT, GT1, and GT2. The GT-line is the newest addition for the 2020 model year.

There are two available engines on this vehicle. The entry-level option on the GT-Line is a 2.0L engine.

But the twin-turbo V6 is well worth taking a closer look at – and it’s available for the base model.  This is an 8-speed automatic engine that is pretty fast and offers solid handling. The paddle shifters do a good job of responding fast to the driver, which improves performance.

The 2.0L engine is an inter-cooled turbo engine and I-4 setup. It gets 255 horsepower at 6200 RPMs.

It also gets 260 lb-ft. at 1400 RPMs. It’s not the fastest engine, but it does offer an 8-speed automatic transmission that helps to improve performance.

The GT model features the normal Brembo brakes. They are easily responsive, fast, and a good fit for this high-performing sedan. This, paired with the all-season tires, help to give the driver confidence behind the wheel.

The 2020 Stinger has a solid fuel economy. It gets an EPA estimated 24 combined city/highway miles per gallon. That’s 21 city and 29 highway. The 4-cylinder, V6 engine doesn’t offer as solid of numbers, but for those buying this car, fuel economy may not be the top buying point.

Also important to many drivers is safety. Though the vehicle received a few dings on the testing, it still has a solid five-star rating. Its rollover risk percentage is just 8.7 percent, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Other Notable Features of the 2020 Kia Stinger

The interior of the Kia Stinger is comfortable and designed with a modern feel. It doesn’t quite hit the quality when compared to the BMW or the Audi comparison vehicles, but it does cost a bit less. The Singer has a much more comfortable backseat — one you can actually feel good about allowing your guests to sit in.

In entertainment options, the Stinger provides two LCD monitors for the first row with a base model at 7-inches. The UVO entertainment system, which is Kia’s branding, is on board. It is reliable and offers consistent touchscreen function. It’s not as bright or playful as other models, but in an executive design, you may not want that.

It also comes with the capability that most drivers expect at this price point. That includes access to navigation, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. There are several USB ports onboard as well.

In driver safety features, the 2020 model does a good job packing in virtually all of the features out there. The big missing pieces, though, are the automated rear breaking and the self-parking. You’ll have to wait for the next version of this vehicle for those.

Some of the stand-out options include a standard blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert feature. It also offers available forward-collision warning with automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure warning.

The Pros and Cons of the 2020 Kia Stinger

When you check out the 2020 Kia Stinger specs, it’s clear this vehicle has much to offer. Why not take a look at what other drivers of the vehicle have reported about it? You can do that when you check out the Vehicle History.

  • Solid exterior looks
