A Closer Look At The Dodge Dart Wheel Bearing Recalls

Consumers rely on their vehicles to be reliable and safe. While manufacturers do their best to meet those expectations, problems can still arise from time to time. Unfortunately, such issues usually only arise after the vehicles have left the dealership and headed down the road.

The good news? When that happens, the automaker issues a recall. This lets the affected owners know about the problem and provides instructions as to what they can do to have the issue remedied.

Does the Dodge Dart have any wheel bearing recalls?

As of September 2020, no recalls have been issued that are specific to wheel bearings. There are, however, four recalls that relate specifically to the vehicle’s mobility in other ways, including:

  • Shifter cable bushing may detach from transmission
  • Transmission control module failure
  • Powertrain control module missing backup software
  • Tire pressure monitoring system

In this article, we’ll provide details about each of these recalls, which affect the 2013 through the 2016 Dodge Dart. If you own one of the affected vehicles, you can then follow the steps provided and have the problem repaired at no cost by a qualified repair professional.

Shifter Cable Bushing May Detach From Transmission

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V293000

Chrysler has issued a recall for certain 2013‒2016 Dodge Dart vehicles that are equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions. The problem is that the shifter cable bushing on these vehicles can fail. This could enable the shift cable to detach from the transmission. This recall began on September 5, 2019.

Chrysler has contacted owners, who have been asked to take their vehicles to a dealership for service. A repair professional will replace the transmission side shifter cable bushing at no charge.

Owners who require additional information about the recall may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall V34.

In addition, owners can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or online at www.safercar.gov.

Transmission Control Module Failure

NHTSA Recall ID: 15V542000

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) has issued a recall for certain 2013‒2015 Dodge Dart vehicles. Those vehicles affected were manufactured between February 24, 2012 and June 16, 2015.

The problem is that the impacted vehicles could experience failure of the transmission control module. This could cause the transmission to unexpectedly shift into “Neutral,” causing loss of motive power and increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall began on January 15, 2016. Chrysler has notified owners and instructed them to take their vehicles to a dealer for replacement of the transmission control module and bracket. The repair is being performed at no cost to vehicle owners.

Owners who require additional information about this recall may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall R42.

In addition to contacting Chrysler’s customer service, owners have the option of contacting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or online at www.safercar.gov.

Powertrain Control Module Missing Backup Software

NHTSA Recall ID: 16V113000

Chrysler has recalled the certain model year 2016 Dodge Darts manufactured from July 25, 2015 through December 16, 2015 that are equipped with a 2.0L engine and manual transmission.

Also included in this recall are certain 2015 Dodge Dart vehicles that are similarly equipped and brought in for dealer service between September 15, 2015 and January 12, 2016.

The problem is that in affected vehicles, the powertrain control module that monitors engine torque output may be missing a backup layer of software. This can cause the control module to fail to prevent an unintended torque event, which could increase the risk of a crash.

This recall got underway on March 25, 2016. Chrysler has notified owners, who are being asked to take their vehicles to dealers. Repair professionals will update the engine control module software at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Owners who have additional questions are asked to contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-851-1403 and reference recall S10.

In addition to contacting Chrysler’s customer service, owners have the option of contacting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go online at www.safercar.gov.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System

NHTSA Recall ID: 14V800000

Auto Mechanic Checking Tire Pressure

Chrysler issued a recall for certain model year 2015 Dodge Dart vehicles with Aero trim. The issue is due to a malfunctioning tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light, which notifies vehicle owners of an improperly inflated tire.

The problem is that the TPMS warning light may not illuminate even when low tire pressure is detected. An improperly inflated tire could lead to complete loss of tire pressure, which increases the risk of a crash.

In addition, the faulty TPMS means these vehicles no longer comply with the requirements established by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138, “Tire pressure monitoring systems.”

The recall began on January 27, 2015. Chrysler has notified owners, who are being asked to bring their vehicles to dealers for service. Dealers will reconfigure the vehicles from a lowline TPMS to a highline TPMS, completely free of charge.

Owners with additional questions are urged to contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall P76.

In addition to contacting Chrysler’s customer service, owners have the option of contacting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go online at www.safercar.gov.
