The 2020 Mazda 3 earned a “Good” rating from the IIHS for crashworthiness, including small overlap front for the driver’s side and passenger’s side, the side of the vehicle, moderate overlap front, head restraints, seats, and roof strength.
The IIHS rated the Mazda 3’s headlights as “Good” if they are on the Premium trim with a build date after Feb. 2020. The LED projector headlights are curve-adaptive and have high-beam assist.
If you buy a used Mazda 3 built prior to Mar. 2020, the LED projector headlights that are curve-adaptive and have high-beam assist received an “Acceptable” rating.
The Base, Select, and Preferred trim levels have LED projector headlights with high-beam assist and are not curve-adaptive. Those models received an “Acceptable” rating for the headlights.
The Mazda 3 received a “Superior” rating for vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention.
The child seat anchors received a G+ rating.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Test/Results
The NHTSA rated the Mazda 3 with five stars overall for the frontal crash test. The front driver’s side and the front passenger’s side received five stars.
