Red 2016 Nissan Altima From Front Side

Throughout the decades, the Nissan Altima grew from its upscale compact origins to become the marque’s bread-and-butter offering in the midsize sedan segment. With its reputation for excellent fuel economy, athletic handling and a comfortable cabin with a broad range of tech and convenience features, it’s no surprise that over 307,000 U.S. buyers made the 2016 Altima their midsize sedan of choice.

Even the best vehicles on the market can be subject to vehicle recalls. The 2016 Altima, for instance, is the subject of several recalls according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Vehicle recalls often include issues that may impact the safety and overall operation of your vehicle. Having these issues corrected at your local dealer as soon as possible helps keep you and your passengers out of harm’s way while ensuring your vehicle works as intended.

You can find out whether your vehicle is affected by one or more of the recalls listed below by visiting the NHTSA website or by contacting your local dealer. If you recently purchased your vehicle, a vehicle history check can reveal if these issues were already addressed by the previous owner.

So far, the 2016 Nissan Altima is involved in four recalls mainly affecting door latch components.

Passenger Airbag May Not Deploy Due to OCS Error

Recall Number: 16V244000

Recall Date: April 26, 2016 – Components Involved: Passenger frontal airbag

The 2016 Altima and several other vehicles within the Nissan lineup rely on the Occupant Classification System or OCS to detect when adult or child front seat passengers are present and activate the passenger frontal airbag as needed. This system may malfunction in recalled vehicles and prevent the system from detecting front passenger occupants correctly. As a result, the passenger frontal airbag may fail to deploy in the event of a crash. The fix involves reprogramming the Airbag Control Unit and OCS Electronic Control Unit in affected vehicles.

Rear Door may Open when Window is Lowered

Recall Number: 17V040000

Recall Date: January 18, 2017 – Components Involved: Door latch-lock cable

On certain 2015-2017 Nissan Altimas, rear door latch/lock cable may fail due to improper routing. Due to this installation flaw, lowering the rear window may cause the window regulator to snag on the cable, causing the rear door to accidentally unlatch and open. This could potentially place rear passengers at risk if the vehicle is in motion. Your nearest Nissan dealer will correct the cable routing free of charge.

Rear Door May Open When Window is Lowered

Recall Number: 18V915000

Recall Date: December 19, 2018 – Components Involved: Door latch-lock cable

Consider this recall as a follow-up to the previous recall involving the rear door latch/lock cable. On vehicles repaired under the previous recall, the rear door latch/lock cable routing may still interfere with the window regulator and cause the rear door to unlatch and open when lowering the rear window. The fix involves securing the rear door latch/lock cable using a revised method.

Unintentional Release of Primary Hood Latch

Recall Number: 20V315000

Recall Date: May 28, 2020 – Components Involved: Secondary hood latch

On model year 2013-2018 Nissan Altimas, the secondary hood latch may corrode over time and subsequently malfunction if the primary hood latch is accidentally released. Without the secondary latch engaged, the hood could suddenly open if the primary latch fails while driving, increasing your risk of a vehicle crash.

Research into a potential fix is still ongoing as of May 2020. In the meantime, Nissan mailed interim notices to owners instructing them on proper latch maintenance as well as a reminder to fully close the hood before driving. Nissan expects to have a remedy available sometime during the third quarter of 2021 and the manufacturer will send a second notice once remedy parts become available.

Transmission faulty
I have a 2016 Nissan Altima. Unfortunately the engine light came in and a Dealership told me that once you get about 100,000 miles on it, they go out. I have a beautiful car that's not worth a thing ti me, because of this issue. I have family and friends that the same thing happened to theirs. It is a known fact that theirs an issue and my question is why hasn't this issue been resolved and addressed. It is obvious that it not a one person problem, but multiple people. I don't think it's fair to the consumer to pay for an issue which is a Company problem. I properly maintenance Car and now I' m left to pay for a new transmission. Not acceptable!!! Beautiful Car and a no good transmission. Otherwise, it's has been a good Car. 😧

The life and times of the 2016 Nissan Altima.
Had a recall issue replaced and then a follow up oil leak from fixing. There has been problems with exhaust which took 3 times for them to figure out and fix within the first 2000 miles. Recently we have had issues with they blamed on electrical update and caused issues accelerating. Passenger front seat belt has issues latching properly. Mentioned this the last 3 times we have taken the car in and it is still not resolved.

Water Leaks
I am wondering if any owners of the 2016 Nissan Altima are having any water leaks ? We had a heavy rain and my front and back floor boards on the passenger side is soaking WET. I checked all windows and sunroof both seem to be closed very tight. Please advise if you have had any WATER LEAK PROBLEMS

2016 Nissan Altima 2.5 SV
I have owned my vehicle for 3 years now and I am not satisfied with it. In those years I have gone thru 2 recalls, the tire sensors reflect low tire pressure as soon as the weather gets cold. The radio is not loud at all. When on the highway it sounds like you have the windows open.

2016 Nissan Altima 2.5 SR is not reliable, efficient, or unproblematic.
There is always a problem with my car. I have had to replace my transmission, as well as, my alternator last year. This year, I had problems with my power steering and my hood latch. Also, there is way too many recalls. I would just like my money back.
accountCircle Keith B on June 22, 2021
2016 Nissan Altima 2.5 SR has been great.
Have had two recalls - one was a door latch issue and the other recall is to take place sometime in 2021 which is for the cabin hood release. The hood release may be accidentally tripped when opening the gas compartment and hood may open while driving.

2016 Nissan Altima used 2 be my fav
It is very reliable but I am starting to think Nissan is using cheap parts. Dashboard makes a lot of noise. Nissan said I needed new tires and brakes 6 months after I got it. I have had to take it to Nissan due to all of these recalls.

Transmission 2016 Nissan Altima.
My car was at 92800 and my transmission had to be replaced. I have read of numerous Altimas with this same issue yet no recalls. These transmissions are garbage and only a Nissan dealership can repair them. How about that.
accountCircle Krystyn S on August 7, 2021
2016 Nissan Altima 2.5 S is a pretty good car.
The only thing I would change is the transmission. I actually had to get an entirely new transmission put in it not long after I got it. There is a recall out on the transmissions luckily so it was all free of charge.

2016 Nissan Altima 2.5 S impression.
It is very reliable and has not had any issues since I bought it. The only problem with mine is that there was a recall for a faulty back door. Other than that, which you can get fixed, it is a great first car!

2016 Nissan Altima review.
However, I have had problems with the transmission, ex: stalling at stops, not accelerating, rolling on hills. Overall great car but transmission needs to be recalled.

The 2016 Nissan Altima has good technology features such as Bluetooth.
One problem related to safety or recall is the seat belt/airbag indicator light for the passenger seat that periodically comes on when there is not a passenger.

2016 Nissan Altima 3.5 SL is dependent, drives well.
Very few repairs except there was a transmission problem for this particular model. There was a recall so I got a new transmission with no out of pocket pay.

Why I wouldn't buy a 2016 Nissan Altima 2.5 SV
The axle and suspension are not good, they tend to have a lot of recalls on these vehicles.
