Honda is well-known for producing truly reliable vehicles that consistently exceed expectations. Although they put their all into the builds, issues can arise and often well after the vehicles land on the showroom floor. When that happens, they have to send out technical service bulletins and recall notices.

Have any recalls been issued for the sunroof on the 2010 Honda Pilot?

As of August 2020, there have not been any sunroof recalls, but complaints include:

  • Electrical draw that drains the battery
  • Shattered or otherwise broken sunroof glass
  • Moonroof almost opens, then reverses to close

Fortunately, in this article, we’ll look at all the details of the moonroof issues in the 2010 Honda Pilot. With that info, you can get the problem fixed and continue enjoying your car without these problems interrupting your travels.

Steady Electrical Draw From the Moonroof

NHTSA Complaint ID: 10037017

When in good operation, the moonroof opens and closes automatically upon activating the switch. After it completes its movement, the system should stop drawing electricity from the battery. Unfortunately, in the 2010 Pilot, it does not.

Even after the car is off, it continues to pull electricity from the battery, fully draining it within two weeks of not driving. Compounding owners’ troubles is the sunroof’s tendency to almost open, then reverse back to the closed position.

Although these problems were not deemed serious enough for a recall, Honda decided to fix the issues for free and sent out a notice to let owners know.

When you bring in the vehicle for repairs, the technician will just reprogram the sunroof control unit to stop the excess draw. This repair also keeps the sunroof from reversing back to closed while it’s trying to open.

After many customers sent in complaints about their sunroof glass cracking and even shattering, Honda decided to get to the bottom of the issue. They alerted their techs to the problem and let them know to inspect the glass carefully for breakage.

If techs notice any damage, they must let the corporate office know, so they can investigate the cause and find a solution. The inspector will then let them know how to proceed with repairs.
