Since it first arrived on showroom floors for the 2007 model year, the GMC Acadia quickly stole the hearts of those looking for an adept crossover utility vehicle. Fast-forward to today, and it’s still one of the best-selling models in its segment.

However, this doesn’t mean it was immune to recalls.

How many recalls have been issued for the 2018 GMC Acadia?

As of September 2020, only 2. These include a potential fuel tank flange fracture that can increase the risk of fire and an intermediate drive shaft that could separate while driving.

Thankfully, in this article, we will cover both of these in detail. We will also review how to get each taken care of for free.

Potential Fuel Tank Flange Fracture

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V358000

The 2018 GMC Acadia uses a high-pressure fuel pump to steadily deliver gas from the tank to the engine. Since it is under an enormous amount of pressure, the pump and lines need to have secure mounting points to keep everything in place.

Sadly, GMC failed to use a mounting flange with enough strength to hold the parts together, resulting in the fuel pump falling down and damaging the high-pressure line. When that happens, the line could spring a leak, sending fuel all over the ground and stalling out the engine.

Since the risk of the engine stalling could result in a collision and injuries to the driver and passengers, they elected to issue a recall for this problem.

The recall repairs simply involve replacing both the high-pressure fuel pump and line to resolve its defective mounting point issue.

Intermediate Drive Shaft Separation Risk

NHTSA Recall ID: 17V516000

Between the half shaft and gearbox lies a vital component called the intermediate driveshaft. When in working order, this part helps effectively transfer power from the transmission to the wheels. It also helps lock the wheels in place when the vehicle is put in Park.

On the 2018 Acadia, the intermediate driveshaft on the right front side can develop a severe fracture. If that happens, the driveshaft could come apart while you are driving down the road. The vehicle would then be unable to continue moving all of a sudden, which could result in an accident.

The driveshaft would also no longer hold the wheels in place when put in Park. If you are parked on an incline without your parking brake set when the driveshaft separates, it could roll right down the hill without warning.

With such a high risk of failure and injury, GM sent out a recall for all affected vehicles. Their proposed repairs include inspection and replacement of the full right front intermediate drive shaft assembly.
