Now in its 12th generation, the 2018 Toyota Corolla features sophisticated styling and all the latest high-tech systems to match. Throughout all its changes, this compact car never abandoned its roots as a reliable commuter beloved by the masses.

However, even a model as well-known as this eventually ends up with a recall.

How many recalls does the 2018 Toyota Corolla have?

As of August 2020 – three have been issued. These include a misprinted load capacity label, a malfunctioning fuel pump, and a problem with the airbag control module. As with all recalls, these are resolved free-of-charge at any authorized Toyota service center.

Let’s now look at each of these recalls in detail.

Incorrect Load Capacity Label

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V503000

The 2018 Toyota Corolla can only carry so much weight before the excess cargo damages the axles, suspension, and other vital parts. To find out how much it can withstand, you just have to check the label.

Unfortunately, on vehicles equipped with factory-installed floor mats, this label may not display the correct information. This could mislead you into thinking your car can carry more than its limit, resulting in minor to severe damage.

Technicians only need a couple of minutes to fix this problem as it only requires the placement of a new label over the incorrect one.

Faulty In-tank Fuel Pump

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V012000

The low-pressure fuel pump inside the tank can malfunction and fail to deliver gas through the line. If that happens, the car would stall, which may end up causing an accident.

Toyota sent out a notice about the faulty pump and the risks of driving it. Since they do not have a suitable solution at this time, the notice did not indicate to come in for repairs quite yet. Once they figure out how to best repair this problem, a second notice will go out.

Airbag Control Module Malfunctioning

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V024000

In the 2018 Corolla, the airbag control module can malfunction and leave important safety components inoperable. The airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners will not activate if a crash occurs.

Technicians have to inspect the airbag control module and its wiring harness to start the repairs for this recall.

If the module is in good working order, they will install a noise filter where it connects to the wiring harness, or replace it if needed.

How Do You Handle a Recall On a 2018 Toyota Corolla?

Accelerating all by itself.
This year 2022, my 2018 Corolla as sped up all by itself, when I have taken my foot off of the accelerator. It is super scary. I am glad that I am a cautious driver and slowed down early, or I would have ended up in the back of another vehicle. Maybe I have the special car, and it has only happened to me.

Out side rear & side view mirror cover fall off?
Had to put packing tape to prevent any additional damage. Did not have a crash of accident. Car has only 14,000 miles on it. I am disappointed, what next will fall off? Still have the original tires & never a issue with my Toyota Corolla. The car is garaged every since day of purchase.516-286-4151
