When you get a brand new vehicle, you want to make sure that you thoroughly do your research. This includes checking its recall history. The recall history will tell you of any reported problems that are common with any given model.

Knowing what problems a vehicle might have can help you when choosing a new one.

How many recalls does the Audi A6 model have?

There have been three main recalls within the last ten years. These relate to the airbags, auxiliary heater, and fuel rails, each of which can be a safety hazard if ignored.

Thankfully, we’ll cover each of these recalls in detail so that you have all the information you need when choosing your next Audi A6.

Airbags Not Properly Deploying

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V370000

The airbags are essential for absorbing energy during a collision while not allowing it to reach the passengers and cause harm.

The PODS module is one of the systems that monitors the airbags. If it malfunctions, the airbags may not deploy properly in the case of an accident, which could lead to serious injury.

From 2012 to 2018, 139,000 Audi S6 and A6 models were recalled when it was found that some airbags were not deploying properly.

This was likely due to the damaged or malfunctioning PODS module. The root cause of the damage was speculated to be from the stress or wear of the body-sensing mat within the front passenger seat.

This was quickly resolved as Volkswagen notified the owners of any affected models immediately. Volkswagen offered to have PODS modules reinstalled or repaired so that deployment of the airbags would be at optimal levels.

Auxiliary Heater May Cause Engine Damage

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V862000

When the auxiliary heater overheats your vehicle, it can cause long-term damage to the engine.

From 2015 to 2016, over 800 Audi A6 models were recalled due to an auxiliary heater connector that would overheat. Since this is an electrical component, speculation concludes this problem more than likely came from a faulty installment.

Volkswagen suspects that the overheating may have been from the connector being incorrectly inserted into the auxiliary heater, which may have caused increased electrical resistance and led to overheating.

Volkswagen resolved this issue by notifying the owners right away. Volkswagen then replaced the auxiliary heater and connector free of charge.

Leaking Fuel Rails

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V035000

The fuel rails are in charge of carrying fuel throughout the fuel system. A faulty or otherwise leaky fuel rail could result in lowered fuel economy and unexpected breakdowns.

From 2015 to 2018, over 74,000 Audi A6 models were recalled for a faulty fuel rail. The vehicles were reported of having both the left and right fuel rails leaking fuel. Volkswagen resolved the issue by notifying owners and replacing the fuel rails free of charge.

How Do You Handle a Recall on an Audi A6?

To look up any recalls for your vehicle, you’ll first want to visit the NHTSA website. Once there, select “Recalls.” Then, enter in the make, model, and year of the vehicle. You’ll also need to put in the VIN and hit search. You’ll then receive all recall data for that specific model should any come up.
