Ford recommends changing a cabin air filter every 15,000 to 20,000 miles. It is very easy to replace the cabin air filter on a Ford F-150 and is something you can do yourself. You’ll save yourself a little money, depending on how much your favorite auto tech or dealership charges to replace it.

If a dealership takes 15 to 30 minutes to change it, and the hourly rate is $150, then you can save $37.50 to $75 in labor costs.

How to Replace the Cabin Air Filter on a Ford F-150

In most cases, the only tool you’ll need to replace a cabin air filter on a 2020 Ford F-150 is a screwdriver. You should have a Phillips and a flathead screwdriver available unless you know for sure which type of screw holds your glove compartment in.

  • Step 1: Open the glove box. Remove everything in it. Look at the top inside of the glove compartment – you are looking for two screws. Remove those screws. They hold the glove compartment in place.
  • Step 2: Unhook the glove compartment from the dash; then pivot it down toward the floor. You should see the cabin filter housing.
  • Step 3: Locate and press on the clips on the sides of the cabin air filter’s housing. Pull the filter housing cover off of the filter.
  • Step 4: Pull the filter out of the housing.
  • Step 5: Locate the arrow on the new cabin air filter. Make sure the arrow is pointing up.
  • Step 6: Slide the new filter into the filter housing, making sure the arrow is pointing up.
  • Step 7: Fit the housing cover in place. Press on the sides of the cover until you feel and hear it snap in place.
  • Step 8: Lift the glove compartment into place. Replace the screws that hold the glove compartment in place.
  • Step 9: Put everything back in the glove compartment and close it.
