Chrysler 300 Airbag Recalls: A Full Overview

The Chrysler 300 is noted for its luxurious ride, powerful engine, and safety. However, like many other vehicles, the Chrysler 300 has been affected by airbag safety. Some Chrysler 300s are part of the Takata airbag recall, which results from problems with potentially exploding airbag inflators.

How many airbag recalls does the Chrysler 300 have?

Chrysler has issued four separate recalls related to airbag problems. Not all are the same, and they don’t affect the same models. 300s dating back to 2005 have been affected by recalls for possible airbag problems which include:

  • Potential explosions of the passenger frontal-airbag inflator
  • Ruptures of the driver side frontal airbag

If you own a Chrysler 300, you can learn more about airbag recalls here. Here are the details about Chrysler 300 airbag recalls:

Passenger Frontal Airbag Inflator May Explode

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V018000

Excessive pressure inside the front airbags in Chrysler 300 and other Chrysler vehicles could cause an explosion in case of a crash. Metal fragments could be propelled throughout the vehicle, causing serious injuries or death.

With over 1.4 million vehicles recalled, Chrysler’s January 2019 recall for airbag safety affected many owners. This recall affects the front passenger airbag inflator. At no charge, Chrysler dealers will replace the airbag inflator on the passenger-side of any Chrysler 300 that is part of the recall.

Passenger Frontal Airbag Inflator May Explode

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V021000

Chrysler’s 2018 passenger frontal airbag recall is related to the car’s long-term exposure to temperature variations and humidity. This recall affected Chrysler 300 models from 2009 to 2013.

The passenger frontal airbag inflator could deteriorate over time and explode instead of inflate in case of a serious accident. Metal fragments could lead to severe injury risk in a crash.

The passenger-side airbag inflator is the at-risk inflator, and Chrysler dealers will replace it for free if your Chrysler 300 is part of this recall.

Passenger Frontal Airbag Inflator May Rupture

NHTSA Recall ID: 16V352000

Airbags have long been considered to be a critical safety device in case a car is involved in a serious crash. But the propellant used for airbag inflators turned out to be vulnerable to changes in the weather over time. The propellant could lead to the airbag inflator exploding instead of rapidly expanding.

Chrysler’s 2016 airbag recall affected over 4.6 million of their cars and trucks, including 2005 to 2009 Chrysler 300 models. The passenger-side airbags in these cars could explode or rupture in accidents, presenting a serious injury risk.

If your Chrysler 300 is part of this recall, dealers will replace the passenger-side airbag inflator at no charge to you.

In 2016, Chrysler recalled over 4.6 million vehicles, including some Chrysler 300S models made between 2005 and 2009, because their airbag inflators could deteriorate over time, leading to ruptures and explosions in a crash.

Driver Frontal Airbag May Rupture

NHTSA Recall ID: 15V313000

In 2015, Chrysler recalled hundreds of thousands of vehicles made between 2005 and 2009 because of potential problems with their dual-stage driver frontal airbags. Chrysler 300s made between 2005 and 2010 could be part of this recall.

The recall involves the driver side frontal airbag, not the passenger-side airbags, which have been recalled in separate Chrysler recall campaigns. If your Chrysler 300 is part of this recall, dealers will replace it for free.

Seat Airbag Wiring Harness Malfunction

NHTSA Recall ID: 13V118000

In case of side crashes, seat airbags will deploy, intended to protect passengers and drivers.

However, in 2013, Chrysler recalled over 119,000 models, including 2011-2012 Chrysler 300s, because terminal crimps on the wiring harness could lead to airbag malfunctions. This could cause the airbag warning light to come on when it isn’t supposed to be illuminated.

Chrysler dealers will replace driver side and passenger seat airbag harnesses to eliminate the problem and restore safety features.

How Should I Deal With an Airbag Recall Notice on my Chrysler 300S?
