The Chrysler Pacifica is known as a reliable family vehicle, as well as a van for other uses. However, even with the best of design and manufacture, safety issues can still arise after vans like the Pacifica have been driven in real-world conditions. As a result, Chrysler has issued safety recalls for the Pacifica.

How many recalls does the Chrysler Pacifica have?

Overall, Chrysler has issued nineteen recalls for Pacifica since 2004, including:

  • Engine stall or loss of power steering assist
  • Unintentional vehicle movement due to a manual park release (MPR) issue
  • Cruise control problems
  • Rear brake line problems
  • Issues with rearview backup camera

Do you own a Pacifica already, or are thinking of buying one? You can learn about its recalls and other crucial data here. We’ll be going into detail, and you can also learn the steps to follow to get your Pacifica repaired by a Chrysler dealer.

Rearview Image Can Remain on Display

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V191000

There’s no doubt that the rearview backup camera is a huge help when backing up and parking the Pacifica. But if you’ve shifted out of reverse and are moving forward and still see an image in the backup camera, it can be a risky distraction.

FCA US recalled over 318,000 vehicles, including 2020 Chrysler Pacificas, because of lingering images in the backup camera radio display.

Dealers will update the software that operates the radio display for free, fixing the problem.

Backup Camera Display

In a similar problem and action to Recall # 20V191000, FCA USA recalled over 20,400 2018-2019 Pacificas with a 360-degree surround-view camera system and seatback video screens.

Software problems led to the backup camera image staying on the screen after the Pacifica was shifted out of reverse. The solution: Dealers will update the radio display software to eliminate the problem.

Engine Stall or Loss of Power Steering Assist

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V348000

You could be driving along the highway when your Pacifica suddenly stalls. You could also lose power steering, making it much harder to drive. Chrysler recalled nearly 200,000 2017-2019 Pacificas which may have had loose battery connections leading to stalling and loss of power steering.

Dealers will inspect the battery and ground surfaces and clean and reassemble the ground connection for free.

Control Arm May Separate from Steering Knuckle

NHTSA Recall ID: 19V143000

The steering knuckle and control arm help you to steer and control the vehicle. In February 2019, Chrysler recalled over 47,000 2018 Pacifica and Pacifica hybrid vans because the right front lower control arm knuckle pinch bolt could fail, leading to a loss of control and potential accident.

At no charge, Chrysler dealers will inspect the right front knuckle and the lower control arm and replace components that could fail.

Voltage Regulator May Fail and Lead to Vehicle Stall

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V524000

Contemporary vehicles like the Pacifica are controlled by a number of computer modules that ordinarily, keep you safe while driving. However, a voltage regulator chip in the powertrain control module of a number of Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge vehicles could fail, causing the engine to stall or not start at all.

Chrysler began recalling 2018 Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid vehicles to replace the powertrain control module in October 2018, fixing the problem for free.

Loss of Drive from Incomplete Transmission Weld

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V492000

Although only five vehicles were affected, including 2018 Chrysler Pacifica, a transmission weld may not have been welded appropriately, leading to potential accidents. Chrysler will replace the entire transmission of affected vehicles at no charge.

Axle Shaft May Disengage

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V493000

If your driveshaft isn’t properly connected to the vehicle’s CV joint, it can disengage and cause loss of power and crash risk. In July 2018, Chrysler recalled 61 Pacificas made in 2018 because of a manufacturing problem that prevented their front-drive half shafts from connecting securely to the CV joint.

Dealers will replace either the right or left half shaft assembly for free to correct the safety problem.

Unintentional Vehicle Movement/FMVSS 114

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V395000

When you see “FMVSS” in a recall description, it indicates a problem with compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS). In June 2014, Chrysler recalled over 240,000 vehicles, including 2017-2018 Pacificas, because their manual park release (MPR) plugs could be removed without a special tool.

The MPR allows vehicles to be towed without damage if the owner has put them in Park, but if the plug comes loose accidentally, they could be parked and roll away unintentionally. Chrysler notified owners, and dealers will replace the MPR plug at no charge.

Cruise Control Can’t be Cancelled

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V332000

Car Cruise Control Button

Cruise control is a great feature, especially for long-distance driving on uncrowded roads. But when it comes time to slow and exit the highway, you want to disengage cruise control.

In May 2018, Chrysler recalled over 4.8 million vehicles, including 2017-2018 Pacificas, because of a potential software problem that prevents cruise control from disengaging. The fix is a software flash on the engine control or powertrain modules, which dealers will perform for free.

Fire Extinguisher May Be Clogged or Inoperable

NHTSA Recall ID: 17V824000

If you have a Chrysler Pacifica and trailer with a fire extinguisher made by Kidde, FCA US recalled over 61,000 vehicles with Kidde Plastic Handle or Push Button “Pindicator” fire extinguishers because they could either clog when needed or potentially discharge their nozzles in use, causing injuries.

Owners of Pacificas with Kidde fire extinguisher models that are a safety risk can have them replaced for free.

Second Row Left Seat Belt Can Become Unlatched

NHTSA Recall ID: 17V542000

2017-2018 Pacificas that can seat eight may have problems with seat belt buckle safety in the second-row center seating position. The center seatbelt buckle could unlatch on the left outboard seat belt while you’re in motion and a passenger is buckled in.

Chrysler recalled over 47,000 Pacificas in October 2017 and will replace the second-row center seatbelt with a safer and shorter belt and buckle. Chrysler’s recall number for this seatbelt safety issue is T54.

Rear Pinion Brackets May Crack

NHTSA Recall ID: 17V482000

If your rear pinion brackets give way while you’re driving, you’ll find that your Pacifica becomes hard, and even impossible, to control. A manufacturing defect in about 520 Pacificas with aftermarket modifications from Vehicle Mobility International (VMI) were recalled because of a risk of rear pinion bracket cracking.

Owners of these 2017 Chrysler Pacificas with aftermarket manufacturing by Vantage Mobility International, LLC (VMI) should take their vehicle to a dealer who will replace the rear pinion brackets at no charge.

Rear Brakes Potentially Crossed During Assembly

NHTSA Recall ID: 17V342000

If you’re the owner of a 2017 Pacifica which has been modified for special needs passengers, a problem with crossed brake lines that occurred during assembly could cause serious braking problems. In May 2017, Chrysler recalled 371 Pacificas made by Vantage Mobility International, LLC.

Ignoring this recall notice could lead to a crash. At no cost to you, dealers will repair the rear brakes so they function correctly.

Center Passenger Seat Belts Can Become Inoperable

NHTSA Recall ID: 16V490000

Many people buy Chrysler Pacifica because they have large families or they carry other passengers frequently. About 3,600 2017 model year Pacificas have manufacturing problems with the center overhead seatbelt stow bezel. It can break and prevent passengers in the third and/or center passenger row seat from being able to use their seatbelt.

Chrysler dealers will replace the seatbelt stow bezel for free, correcting the problem.

Fuel Pump/Powertrain Control Module Software

NHTSA Recall ID: 06V432000

In November 2006, Chrysler recalled over 127,000 Pacificas made between 2004 and 2006 because their fuel pump modules and their power train control modules had software problems that could lead to a stall while driving.

Dealers will inspect the vehicles, reprogram the power train control module, and potentially replace the fuel pump module if necessary, at no charge to owners.

DaimlerChrysler/Powertrain Control Module

NHTSA Recall ID: 04V113000

In March 2004, Chrysler recalled over 34,000 2004 Pacificas which have an NGC-1 Powertrain control module. The software in the module could cause engine stalling while the van is on the road. Dealers will reprogram the NGC-1 control module at no charge.

DaimlerChrysler/Fuel Line Leakage

NHTSA Recall ID: 03V471000

In November 2003, Chrysler recalled over 9,500 2004 Chrysler Pacificas which had incorrectly manufactured chassis fuel supply tubes. The supply tubes could separate while the Pacifica is on the road, cause a fuel leak and a potential fire. At no charge to owners, Chrysler dealers will install a secondary retention clip to secure the fuel line and prevent the problem.

How Should I Respond to a Recall Notice for My Chrysler Pacifica?

First, you can check your Pacifica’s VIN to see if it is part of a safety recall by using the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) recall website. You can also find out recall information from Mopar’s VIN check and recall service site.

Owner Reviews

This is a review of the Recall List, not the car itself; Pre-2017 Pacificas were a Completely Different Car.
This is a review of the Recall List, not the car itself. When you read these recalls, you should be aware that not all of them apply to the current Pacifica model. Pre-2017 Chrysler marketed an SUV-type vehicle called "Pacifica". I don't know much about it, but it looked very different from the current version. In 2017, they discontinued that vehicle, and began manufacturing the current version of the Pacifica Minivan. (So why use the same name? Who knows? Detroit usually takes much longer to recycle previous model names.) So, be aware of the model-year cited in these reviews. I really like my 2019 Pacifica Hybrid so far (38,000 miles), EXCEPT the "Frustrotainment" system, which practically requires a co-pilot to operate.
