2013 Ford F-150: Cylinder Misfiring

NHTSA Complaint ID: 11318028

In this NHTSA complaint from March of 2020, the owner of a 2013 Ford F-150 reports a continuous “check engine” light with code P0308 after purchase. This code was diagnosed as a misfire of the V8 engine’s eighth cylinder. After taking the vehicle to a mechanic, the owner was told that the fourth cylinder has low compression, which has in turn affected the eighth cylinder as well.

The owner did not mention whether or not the vehicle was repaired. However, according to an online article, some common repairs related to a P0308 diagnostic code include:

  • Spark plugs or spark plug wires
  • Ignition coils
  • Fuel injectors or fuel pump
  • Fuel pressure regulator

2013 Ford F-150: Loud Engine Fan

VehicleHistory.com Review

In a September 2020 review on VehicleHistory.com, Hulen Bryant reports that his 2013 Ford F-150 with 6.2L V8 engine puts out excessive and “very loud” fan noise. He also mentions that this is a common complaint with this engine on 2009-2014 Ford models. He also claims that he and his wife have spent thousands of dollars taking the vehicle to dealerships and mechanics, only to experience the same issues with the engine fan.

2014 Ford F-150: Blown Head Gaskets

NHTSA Complaint ID: 11195690

In this April 2019 complaint filed with the NHTSA, the owner of a 2014 Ford F-150 with V8 engine states that the truck blew multiple head gaskets, beginning with the one on cylinder eight. Ultimately, four head gaskets were blown in total. The owner did not mention how much the repair cost, though one site estimates that the average cost to replace a Ford F-150 head gasket can range between $1,616 and $2,043.

2017 Ford F-550 Super Duty: Loss of Engine Power

NHTSA Complaint ID: 11121002

In a July 2018 complaint on the NHTSA website, one 2017 Ford F-550 Super Duty owner reports recurring instances of engine trouble. Specifically, the owner claims that the 6.2L V8 engine loses power and the engine dashboard light will illuminate at highway speeds. Subsequently, the engine will completely stall out, resulting in “difficult steering and braking.”

Upon taking the vehicle to a dealership for inspection, the owner was reportedly told that the problem is being caused by fuel contamination. However, the owner reports that the fuel light on the vehicle has never been on and the dealership was never able to provide evidence that this is the cause of the problem.
