Who hasn’t heard of the Ford Taurus? However, if you’re like most, you have less knowledge about its water pump and the issues it’s known for.

How many recalls did the Ford Taurus have for its water pump?

There aren’t actually any recalls on this component, but there are a lot of complaints, including:

  • Sudden water pump failure
  • Water pumps breaking while still under warranty
  • Water pumps failing without a lot of miles on the vehicle
  • Pumps that fail even after being replaced

In this article, we’ll talk about the complaints that were made regarding Ford Taurus water pumps, so informed consumers can decide if there’s any reason to pursue action to have their water pump repaired or replaced.

There are no Official Recalls on the Ford Taurus Water Pump

While many consumers are bothered by the fact that Ford hasn’t issued any official recalls on their water pumps, it remains true that Ford hasn’t chosen to do so as of September 2020.

Whether they will do that in the future isn’t known, but appears unlikely due to the length of time that has already passed.

Most complaints about the water pumps in the Taurus come from consumers who are frustrated about how quickly the water pump failed, or about repeated attempts to get a water pump in their vehicle that worked correctly.

How to Handle a Ford Taurus Recall

If you aren’t sure about a potential recall on your Ford Taurus, you should visit the NHTSA website and put your VIN into the box for a search. You can also input the year, make, and model to see if any recalls are found.

Having a recall on your vehicle means you will want to contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 to learn about the next steps in the process. You’ll be able to find out where to take the vehicle that needs repair, along with what you can expect from the recall.

Water Pump Replacement is very expensive
My 2013 Ford Taurus has less that 60,000 miles on it and I just had an enormous leak causing a replacement of the water pump. The design requires an intensive amount of labor; at least ten hours. Hence an expensive repair. My mechanic ordered a factor pump from Ford and said that there is a new design which has more teeth than the original pump. This leads me to believe that the original design is defective and Ford should issue a recall. I live where it rains here in Northern California a lot and I was fortunate that the day the pump failed it was not raining. Otherwise, I would not have noticed the leak. My engine could have been destroyed.
