Whether you’re a contractor in need of a solid workhorse or someone in search of an unconventional yet immensely practical family van, Ford van models make plenty of sense. You’ll get plenty of space for passengers and cargo, as well as a variety of must-have features.

What van models does Ford make?

How much of a payload can either of these Ford van models handle? What kind of seating options do these Ford vans offer? How far can I go on a full tank? Our article will give you the info you need to make up your mind about these vehicles.

Transit Connect: $24,275 – $32,250

If you want a small, nimble van that can still get the big jobs done, the Transit Connect is the one to choose. The Transit Connect shares space with the Ram ProMaster City and Nissan NV200 in the compact van segment.

You’ll find the Ford Transit Connect in either a spartan cargo van configuration in a short- or long-wheelbase form or a passenger van capable of seating seven adults. The cargo van’s low, flat floor and generous width make it pallet-friendly while the passenger van offers available leather seating and wireless charging.

Here are some performance specs to take note of:

  • Standard Engine: 2.0L GDI 4-cylinder, 162 hp
  • Optional Engine: 2.5L 4-cylinder, 169 hp
  • City/Hwy MPG: 24/27 (2.0L), 20/27 (2.5L)
  • Max Cargo Space: 145.8 cu-ft
  • Max Payload Capacity: 1,550 lbs

While the Transit Connect hasn’t been rated by the NHTSA or IIHS for crashworthiness, it did receive a rating for rollover resistance:

  • NHTSA: 4-star rollover rating
  • IIHS: N/A

With a 4.67-star owner review score, it’s clear that Transit Connect owners have plenty of good things to say about their vans. Most owners highlight the small van’s fuel efficiency and its roominess when compared to traditional minivans like the Dodge Grand Caravan.

Transit: $34,510 – $42,060

The Transit is the larger of the Ford van duo, boasting two different wheelbases and three body lengths and roof heights for both the cargo van and passenger van versions. The latter seats up to 15 people in its largest and longest configuration.

If you’re looking at a 2020 Ford Transit, then there’s a good chance it comes with Ford’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system – a boon for snowbirds and winter warriors alike.

Long-distance travelers should also opt for the optional 31-gallon fuel tank.

  • Standard Engine: 3.5L PFDi V6, 275 hp
  • Optional Engine: 3.5L EcoBoost V6, 310 hp
  • Max Cargo Space: 414.1 cu-ft
  • Max Payload Capacity: 5,100 lbs
  • Standard Fuel Capacity: 25 gallons

The Ford Transit has yet to undergo IIHS testing, but recent NHTSA tests show the full-size van performs admirably in terms of safety:

  • NHTSA: 4-star overall safety score
  • IIHS: N/A

The Transit also comes with a suite of driver assistive aids, including automatic emergency braking and post-collision braking.

So far, the Ford Transit features a 3.00-star owner review rating. One Transit owner, Jordan X, is impressed with the Transit’s comfortable seating, generous size and ease of driving.
