When it comes to vehicle maintenance, it is important to stay on top of vehicle recalls and alerts. One great place to check for recalls and complaints about your particular vehicle is on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.
Anyone with newer vehicle models, including the Honda Accord line of vehicles, needs to check regularly to see if any recalls or alerts have gone out on their vehicle. Thankfully, as of now, there are no recalls for the newer Accords.
What issues should drivers be aware of for Accord vehicles in general? Compared to some vehicles, there are not that many serious problem reports or alerts for most of the newer models so far. Here are some of the complaints and alerts that have been noted recently:

STRUCTURE – Paint Peeling
There have been a handful of reports about paint peeling off the frame of the vehicle. This peeling has not been linked to any damage or vandalism and is not believed to be associated with bad weathering or exposure. Most of the reports seem to be focused on the roof of the vehicle.
The area of peeling starts off relatively small but can quickly spread to cover a larger area. It tends to occur in patches scattered over the entire area that is peeling.
Owners with peeling paint that is believed to be associated with this problem and not attributed to any other cause can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 or 1-800- 424-9153 (TTY). Honda services can also be contacted to address this issue at 1- 800- 999-1009.

VISIBILITY – Window Fogging and Cracking
A handful of reports have recently been filed for the Accord that deal with trouble keeping the windows from fogging up and obscuring visibility. There are also additional related reports of the windshield cracking when using the defogger while driving.
An assumed issue with the temperature controls prevents adequate defogging at times, and that can also lead to temperature fluctuations on the windshield that could, in some situations, lead to cracking.
Owners who have had trouble keeping their windshields clear or have had random cracking and breaking of the windshield can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 or 1-800- 424-9153 (TTY). Honda services can also be contacted to address this issue at 1- 800- 999-1009.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL – Dashboard Lights
These reports describe random dashboard lights turning on, staying on, randomly running off, then turning back on again, or not illuminating at all. All dashboard lights or just a few seem to be affected at times when this issue is noted in an Accord vehicle.
Issues with dashboard alerts can lead to hazardous driving conditions. Not knowing if a system is actually in critical failure or not, or not being able to see an alert, could lead to a serious accident.
Owners who have any sort of dashboard issues that are not easily addressed by a Honda dealer are encouraged to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236 or 1-800- 424-9153 (TTY). Honda services can also be contacted to address this issue at 1- 800- 999-1009.
How Should You Handle a Recall or Issue with a Newer Honda Accord?
Not sure if your Honda Accord has a recall or problem alert that you need to be aware of? Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) site and enter the VIN (or the year, make, and model) into the form and hit submit.
