Your Honda Odyssey cabin air filter, not the one that filters air for your engine, but the one that filters air for you, might not be as urgent a maintenance fix as an oil change. But when you’re on the highway, you don’t want to smell the horse trailers.

What’s the best cabin air filter for a Honda Odyssey?

A genuine Honda Odyssey cabin air filter. You can find one of these for around twenty bucks at Honda Parts Now. Aftermarket parts will work just fine for this fix, but you’re not really saving any money on an STP filter, so you might as well get an OEM.

How to Replace Your Honda Odyssey Cabin Air Filter

This is the easiest fix you can do.

  1. Open your glove box.
  2. Press the outer walls in. This will allow you to drop the box all the way open.
  3. Behind the box, you’ll find a plastic panel with two tabs on the sides. Push those tabs in and pull the panel.
  4. The old air filter will come out with the panel. Replace that with your new one.
  5. Put everything back together.

This fix is about fifty bucks at the mechanic, including the filter. So doing this yourself will save you thirty dollars and a trip to the garage. And you don’t even have to get your hands greasy. So why not just DIY it?

How Often Should You Replace Your Honda Odyssey Cabin Air Filter?

Your Honda Odyssey owner’s manual will tell you to replace your air filter every 15,000 to 30,000 miles.

You can replace it early if you like. A good filter should last at least 15,000 miles, but you never know. It could be damaged, or some moisture might have been trapped in there, causing mildew. So if something smells off, check it out.

You can clean your AC system out by spraying some disinfectant through the exterior vents while running the AC at full blast. Just make sure to leave the windows down and give it a few hours to air out before driving again.
