Maserati Ghibli
Three brothers – Alfieri, Ettore, and Ernesto Maserati – opened a car workshop in December 1914. After a few months, the war needed their experience in working on vehicles. They finally got to work on an original creation during the winter of 1926. It was called the Tipo 26.
The Tipo 26 was the first car with the Maserati name and the famous Trident logo. In 1929, their Class C car set a world record of 246.069 km/h for 10 kilometers. In 1937, the brothers sold the company to Adolfo Orsi.
The Boyle Special 8 CTF won the Indianapolis 500 in May 1939 with an average speed of 185.131 km/h. That year, Maserati moved from Bologna to Modena. In 1993, Maserati and Ferrari joined forces. Maserati cars had Ferrari engines, including the 3200 GT – the car that gave birth to the Spyder.
What Owners and Professionals Say about the Maserati Ghibli
The 2020 and 2021 model years for the Maserati Ghibli have no recalls or customer complaints. The one customer complaint filed with the NHTSA could have been operator error. The customer complained that the front of the car shook while braking at over 40 mph.
The dealership recommended replacing the brakes and tires and performing an alignment. The customer did not have that work done.
Also, in 2018, the Maserati Ghibli had two recalls:
- Incomplete subframe welds could fracture, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
- Fuel leaking in the engine compartment that increased the risk of fire.
According to Edmunds, the interior left something to be desired when compared to the cost of the vehicle, and the vehicle did not have some of the latest technology features.
While the vehicle is reliable, choosing a base model that doesn’t have the latest technology features could affect reliability in that the driver has to do all of the driving. Also, missing these features affects the price of selling the vehicle when you want to upgrade.
The 2020 model year was rated by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). The organization rated the Maserati Ghibli with a “Good” rating for a side-impact test, roof strength test, rear crash protection and head restraints, small overlap front test, and moderate overlap front test.
