Whether you’re changing your fuel injectors for the first time or you’re a seasoned pro, it’s a good idea to learn how to get the job done without having to take the fuel injectors out of your car. Here, car guru Scotty Kilmer explains how to do just that.

How do you clean the fuel injectors in your car without removing them?

#savagescotty recommends that you buy a Run Rite tool and Sledge Hammer cleaning solution, and use this tool (and compressed air) to clean out your fuel injectors without having to remove them from your vehicle.

Here, we’ll go over each step of the process in detail, making it easy for you to get your car in great running shape faster, without having to take it to a mechanic.

How to Clean Fuel Injectors Without Removing Them

As your car’s engine gets older, it’s normal for carbon to begin to build up in the engine and the fuel injectors. This can lead to poor gas mileage, as your car runs less efficiently than if the fuel injectors were clear.

To clean your fuel injectors without removing them from the vehicle:

  1. Purchase a Run Rite tool.
  2. Pour the Run Rite Sledge Hammer cleaner into the Run Rite tool.
  3. Hang the end of the tool onto the open hood of your vehicle.
  4. Screw the other end of the tool into the fuel rail in the vehicle (at the test port).
  5. Open the fuse box, remove the fuel pump relay from the box. This will make the engine take the cleaner from the Run Rite tool rather than from its normal fuel source.
  6. Attach the air supply nozzle to the Run Rite tool. Then, turn on the air to allow the pressure to begin to build in the tool until you hit about 50 pounds of pressure.
  7. Start the vehicle, and allow it to run until it turns off. When your vehicle shuts off, it means that the cleaner has run out and has filtered through your fuel injectors.

Going through this process every 60,000 to 90,000 miles can help you get the most out of both your vehicle and the hard-earned money you spend on gas.
