We count on our vehicles to get ourselves and our families from point A to point B safely and efficiently. However, when something goes wrong during production, components may start to fail. When this happens, a recall may be issued to prevent further issues.

Does the Honda Accord have any recalls?

There are three major recalls to note. One involved the fuel pump on some 2015 models; another, the airbag system (2011 models); and lastly, the power supply system, affecting certain 2008 Accords.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this is what you need to know about Honda Accord vehicle recalls:

Reduced Fuel Pump Performance May Cause Stall in 2015 Honda Accord

NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V060000

Summary: Reports have been filed about greatly reduced fuel pump performance while the vehicle is being driven. This can result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash due to loss of control.

Honda has put out recalls for certain 2016–2018 Honda Accord vehicles equipped with a 3.5L V6 engine. The fuel pump’s inner surfaces can become coated and clogged with debris from the fuel lines, reducing its performance and leading to potential catastrophic system failures.

Potential Number of Units Affected: Approx. 500,000

Remedy: Honda notified known owners to inform them of the potential hazard and recall.

Passenger Frontal Airbag Inflator May Explode on 2011 Honda Accord

NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V661000

Passenger Airbag Symbol

Summary: An issue was detected with the airbag inflator that, upon impact and activation, could cause an explosion. This may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants and could result in serious injury or death.

Recalls were issued for vehicles that were manufactured in 2011 as a precautionary measure. This airbag inflator could be in original parts or replacement parts and may explode. It is believed this is due to propellant degradation occurring due to temperature changes and temperature cycling over the long term.

Potential Number of Units Affected: Approx. 1,300,000

Remedy: Honda notified known owners to inform them of the potential hazard and recall.

Airbag Control Unit Power Supply Corrosion in 2008 Honda Accord

NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V056000

Summary: Corrosion has been noted in various parts of the airbag control system’s power supply system. If the airbag control unit becomes compromised, it could short out and fail. This could mean that the airbags may not deploy correctly during a crash, or they may not deploy at all.

This of course increases the risk of occupant injury or even death. American Honda Motor Company, Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain model year 2008–2010 Accord vehicles to help reduce instances of injury due to airbag power supply failure.

Potential Number of Units Affected: Approx. 500,000

Remedy: Honda sent out notices to owners to alert them of the recalls, and dealers have been instructed to inspect and either repair or replace airbag control units, free of charge.

Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236.
