Nissan Altima Key Fob Battery: The Best Option

Environmentally friendly engines are great, and we all love newer safety features. But the key fob might be the coolest automotive innovation since the first V8. But, that Nissan Altima key fob battery is gonna burn out one of these days.

What kind of battery goes into a Nissan Altima key fob?

The Nissan Altima key fob battery is a CR 2032 3-Volt. This is one of the most common types of 3-Volt batteries available, so it’s not hard to find a replacement. It’s not hard to pop a new one in, either.

That said, you want to make sure you get the right battery, and you want to make sure that you know what you’re doing before you go prying your key fob apart with a screwdriver. So let’s get into exactly what you’re looking for and how to replace it.

Where Can I Find a Nissan Altima Key Fob Battery and What Will It Cost?

If a retailer sells batteries, they probably sell one for a Nissan Altima key fob. CR 2032s are used in everything from digital watches to garage door openers to toys and every other type of electronic gadget and gizmo that fits in your pocket.

Just keep an eye out next time you’re at the gas station, grocery store, AutoZone, Wal-Mart, wherever it is that you do your shopping — you should be able to find some CR 2032s.

Prices will vary. You can find them for a dollar at Wal-Mart, $2.50 at Staples, a five-pack for three dollars on Amazon. But you shouldn’t be spending much more than a couple bucks per battery at the most.

2032 refers to the size, 20mm diameter by 3.2mm thickness. The 2025 3v is the same battery, just flatter. Some drivers swap their 2032 out with a pair of 2025s for better key fob range. A handy little hack, but if they won’t fit, don’t force them.

How to Replace Your Nissan Altima Key Fob Battery

  1. Turn your key fob over and look for the small release hatch.
  2. Push the hatch and then pull the emergency key from the bottom of the key fob, and remove the key housing.
  3. Note where the battery is in the key housing, and pop it out.
  4. Put the new one in, negative side up, facing you.
  5. Put everything back together and test it out on your Nissan.

That should do the trick. If not, you might want to reset your computer by turning the engine to on, hitting the information button on the steering wheel, and selecting “reset.” And if that doesn’t do it, there might be an issue with the key fob itself.

You can test a 3-volt battery pretty easily if you have a multimeter, but they’re pretty cheap, so there’s no point hoarding old ones just in case they still have some juice in them.
