Nissan Safety Shield is the name for Nissan’s driver-assistance technology suite. This includes Blind Spot Warning, Intelligent Cruise Control, Tire Pressure Monitoring, Front and Rear Sonars, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Adaptive Headlights and Predictive Forward Collision, to name a few features.
Simply listing the features included doesn’t really cover what Nissan Safety Shield is all about, though. It’s an all-encompassing, top-to-bottom approach to creating a safer ride through a series of automated features. Okay, that sounds confusing, we know. So here’s what we mean by that:

To give an idea of what Nissan Safety Shield is, we’ll take Intelligent Cruise Control as an example. The key word there is Intelligent.
Traditionally, cruise control just keeps the car going at the speed it’s already at. There’s no software making decisions, it just puts the acceleration in place so you don’t have to keep your foot on the pedal when you’re gonna be driving an hour on the highway in light traffic.
With Intelligent Cruise Control, you now have a program in place that monitors for cars up ahead and behind you. If you get too close to someone up ahead, the car slows down. If someone behind you is getting too close, the car speeds up.
It’s not exactly self-driving, but it uses artificial intelligence to assist your driving experience. If you’re not quick enough to hit the brakes when the person in front of you comes to a sudden stop, the Intelligent Cruise Control has you covered.
Just about every feature in the Safety Shield suite is like that.
Traction Control will manage the speed of each wheel so that you don’t skid out on the ice, Electronic Brake Force Distribution will make sure each wheel gets the correct amount of brake force when coming to a stop, etc.
Think of Safety Shield like a robot co-pilot. It can’t take the wheel the whole way there, but it’ll let you know what to look out for, and it’ll nudge the car in the right direction as necessary.
