The Porsche Macan debuted in 2015 with an MSRP of around $85K. Today, that same model can be found used for just $30K. However, as the years get newer, the pricing quickly goes up, especially on top-tier trims.
Key Points
- The Porsche Macan was introduced for the 2015 Model year with two trim levels, the S, and the Turbo. What was $85,000 new can now be found used for around $30,000.
- Porsche adds two new trims to the Macan lineup in 2017. First, the Base, which is powered by a 252-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder. Second, the GTS, a mid-tier trim powered by the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo as the S, but adds 20 horsepower.
- 2018 introduced the “Sport Edition”, which is similarly priced to the S, but sports some appearance and performance upgrades
- Due to low depreciation, the difference in price between a 2019 Macan and a 2021 model are minimal, nearly treading into “new” territory.
- 2022 will be the last year of the first-generation Macan, and will be offered in S and GTS trims.
A Pre-owned Porsche for $30,000? Yes. Used 2015/2016 Macans are a Fraction of Initial MSRP
The Porsche Macan debuted in 2014 for the 2015 model year and was offered in two trim levels, the S and the Turbo. The original 2015 MSRPs for these sat at about $85,000 and $123,000, respectively. The S came standard with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 good for 340 horsepower, while the Turbo received a larger, 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 putting out 400.
Today—using online pricing tools like Vehicle History, Kelley Blue Book (KBB), and NADA Guides (NADA)—you should have no issue picking up a 2015 Porsche Macan S for somewhere between $30,000 to $35,000.
However, that’s just for the base S, as a first-year Macan Turbo is a bit more expensive when priced with standard equipment at an average number of miles, with a NADA 2015 retail value of $42,350.
The 2016 Porsche remained largely unchanged from the previous year. Three-zone climate control became standard, and Porsche offered an optional surround-view camera. With one less year of depreciation over the previous model, A 2016 Macan S will typically sell for between $39,333 and $45,862, according to KBB. NADA seems to agree, with clean retail price of $39,050.
For a 2016 Macan Turbo you can expect to pay as much as $56,682. NADA values the car a bit lower, at $49,275. However, recent listings on Auto Trader bring up some lower-priced options. Pricing is very dependent on packaging and miles, and the current listings certainly reflect that.
2017 Macan Adds Lower-cost Base Trim & Mid-tier GTS
For the 2017 model year, Porsche expanded the Macan family tree by introducing a new, lower-cost Base trim as well as an aggressive mid-tier GTS. The Base received a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder producing 252 horsepower, and returned a notable 22 miles per gallon combined, making it the most fuel-efficient Macan yet. Pricewise, you should be able to find a used Base 2017 Macan for between $40,013 and $47,032.
Next came the S trim, which was mostly the same as the previous years, and can be found somewhere around $46,200 to $54,000.
The GTS uses the same twin-turbocharged V6 as the S, but horsepower is upgraded to 360, slotting it right below the Turbo model in terms of performance. But it also receives some extra standard items, like an electronically adjustable suspension, revised steering components, and some cosmetic enhancements. The cost for a 2017 GTS today should run around $56,000 depending on miles and condition.
NADA shows the top-end Turbo trim at a clean retail of $61,650.
2018 Macan Gets ‘Sport’ Trim, Newer Models See Return of GTS & Turbo Trims
The 2018 model year saw yet another trim level introduced. Dubbed the “Sport Edition,” it slots in between the S and GTS trims. As you can see on Auto Trader, prices for the Sport Edition and S are in the same ballpark, with equipment and mileage being prioritized. The Sport Edition is mostly an appearance package, though it does share some suspension from the GTS. Expect to pay between $50,000 and $53,550 for either trim in great condition.
The sporty GTS will command a price of around $65,000 and can climb higher depending on equipment. Finally, the 2018 Macan Turbo can still set you back closer to $70,000, but can quickly increase when items like a collision-avoidance system, adaptive cruise control, and Burmeister stereo system are added.
For 2019 only the Base and S trims were offered, with KBB valuing the Base starting at about $55,000 and the S at $67,525.
For 2020 and 2021, the GTS and Turbo trims returned. The GTS now uses the Turbo’s engine tuning, good to deliver 434 horsepower and a 0-60 sprint of just around four seconds.
As for 2022, it’s rumored to be the last year of the first-generation Macan, with only the Base and GTS trims available.
Due to the slow depreciating nature of Porsches, 2019 and newer models aren’t very far off from their original MSRP. So, if you’re considering a newer model, you might be tempted to buy new.
How Much Does a New Porsche Macan Cost?
Pricing on the new Macan has a wide berth; for 2022, the base Macan starts at just under $54,900. The Macan S starts at $65,400 which is certainly competitive in its market. The now top-trim GTS starts at nearly $80,000, but $90,000 or more after options. That’s a lot of money to pay for a Porsche Macan, especially when you consider only incremental differences in every model year since its inception in 2014.
If you really load your new Macan up, you can option a 2022 Macan GTS up to around $100,000. That’s before opting for super-exclusive options like Porsche Paint-to-Sample paint. A large portion of the expense comes from the GTS Sport Package. It includes exterior cosmetic touches that really make the Macan GTS look special. It also includes all of the goodies included in the Sport Chrono Package, which includes a lot of the sporty interior bits and a more adjustable suspension.
For most people, however, the Macan S will likely check the boxes if you’re looking to buy new. While less performance-oriented than the Macan GTS, the Macan S represents a bit better value. As mentioned before, the Macan S has a base MSRP of $65,400, and is fairly well equipped with standard equipment. But even if you opt for special paint, trim, and wheel options, on top of the Premium Package (which gets you LED headlights and an upgraded stereo), you can still keep the price below $80,000.
