Subaru’s safety features rank it among the safest automaker in the industry today. The new Forester, Ascent, and Crosstrek all score 5-Stars with the NHTSA, and they come packed from end to end with all the modern safety technology that you want from a new car.

What are some Subaru safety features?

A lot of the key safety features offered in a Subaru are listed under their “Subaru EyeSight” suite. Subaru EyeSight features include pre-collision braking, pre-collision throttle management, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure and sway warning with lane keep assist.

The idea is basically that you have a second set of eyes to help you operate your vehicle, hence, Subaru EyeSight. Sort of a robot co-pilot to keep you safe out there. Below, we’ll go over each of these features in a bit more detail. Read on.

What Subaru Safety Features are Included in Subaru EyeSight?

Pre-Collision Braking

Pre-collision braking uses sensors in the front of the car to detect potential collisions up ahead. If it senses something, it warns you with an audiovisual alarm. If you don’t hit the brakes hard enough to bring the car to a stop, your Subaru will take care of it.

Pre-Collision Throttle Management

Pre-collision throttle management works hand in hand with pre-collision braking. If a car suddenly stops in front of you, you get a warning, and then your car automatically decelerates.

From there the pre-collision brakes will kick in, or you can bring the car to a stop, slow down, or drive around whatever’s in your path.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Car Adaptive Cruise Control

Conventional cruise control is great for wide open roads. It’s not so great for uneven stop-and-go traffic. Adaptive cruise control works just like normal cruise control, except that it adjusts to the speed of other cars in front of you and behind you.

So if you’re driving along in cruise mode and you suddenly come upon a slowpoke, your Subaru’s got that covered. Once they’re out of your way, you hit “resume” and you’re back to your desired speed.

Lane Departure and Sway Warning with Lane Keep Assist

With lane departure and sway warning, you get an audiovisual warning whenever you start to drift from your lane. With lane keep assist, the Subaru will actually correct the steering wheel to keep you in the proper lane.

Basically, these features are there to help keep you safe on the road by managing all those little things that are hard to keep track of on your own. It’s not quite auto-pilot, but it’s the next best thing.

People Also Ask…

Which Subaru is the Safest?

In terms of scoring, the 2020 Subaru Impreza. It was a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS and received a “Good” in every crash test, and a perfect 5-star crash rating with the NHTSA. The 2020 Impreza even got 5 stars for rollover, where SUVs usually top out at a 4-star rating.

What is the Safest Color Car?

White. This is statistically true. Red cars are not actually more likely to be stolen, but white cars are more visible on the road, making them less likely to be struck by other cars. White cars are involved in 12% fewer accidents than black cars.

Which is Safer: Volvo or Subaru?

Volvo, overall. But the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid and Impreza have been rated as the safest new cars in 2020, just edging out comparable 2020 Volvos. Volvo may win for overall track record, but Subaru takes 2020 by a slim margin.
