In this July 2020 complaint filed with the NHTSA, a 2007 Nissan Murano was brought to an independent mechanic for an unrelated repair. While there, the owner was informed that the rear subframe was severely corroded, that the rear wheels were turned inward, and that the vehicle was not safe to drive.
This was discovered at around 168,000 miles, though no repairs were made to the subframe.
Rusted Rear Subframe Causing Sway Bar Detachment

The owner of this 2007 Nissan Murano filed an NHTSA complaint in October of 2019, reporting that upon taking the vehicle to a mechanic for regular maintenance, the mechanic noted that the rear subframe was severely corroded and the sway bar was completely detached on the passenger’s side.
This failure occurred with only about 39,000 miles on the vehicle’s odometer.
Shaking Caused By Deteriorating Rear Subframe

In this 2019 NHTSA complaint, the owner of a 2007 Nissan Murano claims that the vehicle began shaking while driving down the road. Upon stopping to inspect the vehicle, the owner noticed that the rear wheels appeared to be out of alignment.
The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic, where it was discovered that the rear subframe was “rusted and falling to pieces.”However, no other rust or corrosion was noted on the rest of the vehicle. According to the owner, the vehicle was deemed unsafe to drive.
