What is the best Nissan Sentra air filter?

The genuine air filter part recommended by Nissan for your 2018 Nissan Sentra is the 16546-30P00 that can be purchased at your Nissan dealer or online. You can find filters that fit your Sentra at most major automotive parts stores like K&N, AutoZone, or Pep Boys.

How Much Does a Nissan Sentra Air Filter Cost?

The OEM air filter runs about $25. If you opt for an aftermarket filter, you will save, with prices between $9 and $15. Always enter your year, model, and engine type when searching for the properly-sized engine air filter.

Can I Use an Aftermarket Air Filter Instead of the Nissan Sentra OEM Filter?

Yes, the OEM filter may have a denser filtration medium or an extra layer. However, most aftermarket filters fit perfectly and will prevent dirt from entering your engine. K&N produces a reusable filter that costs about $60, but you will never have to buy another disposable filter again.

DIY: Change Your Nissan Sentra Air Filter in 5 Minutes

You don’t need any tools to change out your Nissan Sentra air filter, and it only takes a few minutes to get it done.

  • Open the hood and locate the airbox and plastic air hose located behind and to the right of the battery.
  • Flip open the silver clips on top of the airbox.
  • Unsnap the connections that keep the air hose in place, one at the junction of the airbox; the other connects to the frame.
  • Remove the air hose.
  • You can see the air filter in the airbox. Wiggle the airbox and pull it out of the engine compartment.
  • Take the old filter out of the airbox. Wipe any dirt or debris out of the airbox.
  • Drop the new filter in place. The folds of the filter should face inside the airbox.
  • Put the airbox back in place.
  • Return the air hose and secure the snaps.
  • Close the clips on top of the airbox.
  • You are done!

How Do I Know if The Engine Air Filter is Clogged in My Nissan Sentra?

If your Sentra is struggling to get up to speed, sputtering, stalling, or suddenly sucking down gas, the cause may be a dirty air filter. The engine air filter is designed to keep dust and debris out of your engine, allowing a clean and efficient combustion process. It also is designed to deliver enough air for the same purpose. A clogged air filter literally stops the engine from breathing.

How Often Should My Nissan Sentra Engine Air Filter Be Changed?

Nissan suggests that your engine air filter should be replaced every three years or 30,000 miles, whichever you reach first. If you drive through heavy pollution, over dirt roads, or across the desert, it should get replaced more often. Check your Nissan Sentra owner’s manual for a complete schedule of routine maintenance tasks.

What about the Cabin Air Filter in My Nissan Sentra?

The cabin air filter and engine air filter are separate filters. The cabin air filter reduces pollution and dust from the air that you breathe while driving. It also prevents leaves, twigs, and dust from clogging the fans in your air conditioning and heating ducts. It is suggested to change that filter every other year.
