Toyota, a brand known for its generous safety and security features, has included an anti-theft device as standard equipment on many of its vehicles for years.

On recent Toyota Camry models, this includes a sophisticated engine-immobilizer system.

Looking for a quick and easy way to reset the anti-theft system on your Toyota Camry?

This can typically be done by pressing a series of buttons on your vehicle’s radio after inserting your key fob into the ignition, as well as entering your anti-theft system’s unlock code.

By having a better understanding of how the Toyota Camry’s anti-theft system works and the specific steps you’ll need to follow to reset yours, you’ll be good to go.

Understanding Toyota’s Anti-Theft System

Like most anti-theft systems on modern cars, the Toyota Camry’s engine-immobilizer system works using a specially programmed transponder that’s built into your car’s key fob(s) and linked to your Camry’s computer system.

Only your original programmed key fobs will allow the ignition to be started; if the wrong key is used, or if the ignition is otherwise tampered with, the anti-theft system will be engaged and the vehicle will not start.

Of course, there are situations in which you may need to reset your anti-theft system, such as after an attempted vehicle theft or even after having new keys programmed for your vehicle.

How to Reset a Toyota Camry Anti-Theft System

Because you’ll be prompted to enter an anti-theft system reset code upon completing these steps, it’s important that you have access to your reset code before you begin.

You can check your Camry owner’s manual for your code; if you cannot locate it, your best bet will be to reach out to a local Toyota dealership (ideally, the dealership where you bought your car) to obtain it.

Once you have your code, start the process of resetting your anti-theft system by turning the vehicle into accessory mode. This can be done by either inserting the key into the ignition and turning it one “click” or pressing the engine start/stop button.

Next, press the power button on your Camry’s stereo and then press and hold the “up” tuning button. At the same time, press and hold the “1” preset button on your stereo until a series of dashes appears on the stereo screen itself.

At this time, you should be prompted to enter your unlock code. You can do this by pressing the radio station preset buttons that coordinate with your reset code. If the code is correct, the stereo should automatically shut off.

Once the stereo shuts off, your Camry’s anti-theft system should be reset and you should be able to start your ignition normally. Keep in mind, though, that if you had new keys programmed, you’ll need to have your dealership assist you.
