Cabin air filters are becoming a common item on modern vehicles. The 2016 Ford F-250 uses one to clean the air that eventually enters the cabin.

These cabin air filters occasionally need changing, which is why it’s good to know where it’s located.

So, where is the 2016 Ford F-250 cabin air filter located?

Answer: You’ll find it on the passenger side of the interior behind the glove box. The cabin air filter sits behind a honeycomb plastic cover, which must be removed along with the glove box and plastic frame.

Right about now, you’re probably wondering what exactly does the cabin air filter do and why you’d want one in the first place. Learn more as we walk you through locating and replacing the cabin air filter for the 2016 Ford F250.

Why Use a Cabin Air Filter?

Ever driven down a dusty road? The air filter in your engine compartment helps keep dust and other unwanted debris out of your engine’s intake. Cabin air filters do the same for the interior. In fact, most cabin air filters are made of the same stuff as their engine-based counterparts.

Here’s how they work: As air moves through the filter, the pleated paper material traps all sorts of contaminants contained within. As a result, only clean air circulates through the HVAC system and ultimately ends up in the interior.

By trapping pollen, dust and other contaminants, cabin air filters help you breathe easier when you’re behind the wheel or riding along as a passenger. Cabin air filters also prevent dust and debris from building up inside HVAC system components, helping them last longer.

Now that you know how cabin air filters work and their benefits, here’s how you can find the one inside your 2016 Ford F-250.

The cabin air filter is located behind the glove box. You’ll need to remove the glove box to gain access to the filter. With the glove box open, unhook the dampener arm from the right side of the box.

The glove box rests on a pair of rubber stops. Grab both sides and push inwards to bypass the stops and lower the glove box out of the way.

You’ll need to remove a large plastic frame to reach the honeycomb cover. Firmly pull the rubber shelf upwards to reveal the two 7-mm screws holding the frame in place. Remove these screws and then carefully pull to remove the frame. Be careful not to damage the wiring.

Finally, unclip the honeycomb plastic cover to reveal the cabin air filter. The filter pulls straight out. To install a new filter, simply reverse the above steps. Make sure the air flow indicator arrow is pointed down during the installation.

If you’re wondering how often you should replace your 2016 Ford F-250 cabin air filter, you’re not alone. Fortunately, the manufacturer recommends replacing both the cabin air filter and engine air filter every 15,000 to 30,000 miles under routine driving conditions.

2016 Ford F-250 Recall Information

A quick check for any open safety recalls can save you plenty of headaches when looking for a pre-owned vehicle.

Fortunately, there’s only one recall that’s specific to the 2016 Ford F-250. This particular recall (recall ID: 16V246000) affects certain 2016 Ford F-250 trucks made between April 5 and April 11, 2016. The factory-installed tires may lose air or rupture due to inner sidewall damage caused during vehicle assembly.

The 2016 Ford F-250 is also one of several Super Duty models affected by the “death wobble” issue. The front suspension on affected vehicles may shake violently if the driver hits a bump or groove at speeds in excess of 50 mph, potentially leading to a loss of vehicle control.

You won’t find an open recall for this issue, unfortunately. However, numerous F-Series Super Duty owners have joined in a class action lawsuit in response to the manufacturer’s lack of action. The class action lawsuit is still pending as of September 2020.
